BMW 4 Series Washer Jets Freezing & Error Code Fix Needed

Fault stored

Spray nozzles frozen

Hey everyone! Having trouble with my 2015 BMW 4 Series (105k km, gas engine). The windshield washer system is acting up, nozzles freeze when it's cold and seem burned out. Got an error code too. Mechanic suggested it's the washer heater, but after a bad experience with them last time, I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Looking for recommendations on diagnosis and repair, plus any tips on finding a trustworthy mechanic for this issue. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2012 BMW 3 Series last winter. The symptoms were nearly identical, frozen nozzles and error codes. Initially thought it was just the cold weather, but turned out the washer heater cable had corroded and lost connection. Took it to my regular garage and they found the connector pins were badly oxidized. The fix wasn't too complex, they cleaned the connections and replaced the damaged wiring harness section. Not a serious repair, but definitely needed proper attention to prevent further electrical issues. My suggestion would be to have a certified BMW technician check the wiring first before replacing the entire heater unit. Sometimes it's just the connections that need attention. By the way, I switched mechanics after a misdiagnosis too. Found my current one through word-of-mouth recommendations from other BMW owners. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the wiring harness being the culprit. How much did they charge you for the repair in the end? Also, curious if you've had any other issues pop up with the washer system since getting it fixed? I'm trying to get an idea of whether this might be part of a bigger problem I should watch out for.

Hey again! Just wanted to update you, I actually got the issue fixed last week! You were asking about the costs, it came to 95 € for fixing the faulty cable connection. Honestly, it was cheaper than I expected, especially considering how annoying the problem was. And to answer your other question, nope, haven't had a single problem with the washer system since the repair. Everything's working perfectly now, even in the cold weather. The nozzles heat up like they should, and no more error codes popping up on the dashboard. Such a relief! Turns out it was just what my mechanic initially suspected, a dodgy connection in the heater wiring. They just needed to clean up the corroded bits and secure the connection properly. Way simpler than replacing the whole unit. If you're still looking for a mechanic, I'd be happy to share what questions I asked when finding my current one. They really know their stuff when it comes to BMWs, and they're straight shooters about what needs fixing and what doesn't.

Thanks so much for all the details! I actually went ahead and got it fixed yesterday at a new mechanic I found through a local BMW owners' group. The repair was pretty straightforward, exactly what you described with the corroded wiring. Cost me about 100 bucks, which feels fair given the hassle it was causing. Funny enough, my mechanic spotted the issue right away and showed me the corroded bits before fixing it. Really appreciated their transparency, such a different experience from my last garage. They even walked me through what they were doing and gave me some tips for winter maintenance. You were spot on about getting a BMW specialist to look at it. The system's working perfectly now, no more frozen nozzles or error messages. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with this. Saved me from potentially paying for unnecessary repairs!
