Hey, that's really helpful info about the sunroof issue! Had the exact same nightmare with my car, error message and all. Felt like I was reading about my own problem! Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair job? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up? I'm particularly worried about potential water damage like you mentioned, so I'll definitely get it looked at ASAP. Really appreciate your detailed response!
Hey again! Glad I could help with sharing my experience. Just wanted to give you a quick update, I actually got really lucky with my repair compared to what I initially thought it might cost. The mechanic found it was just a coding issue in the end, no need for any major parts replacement like I'd feared. Only paid 75 € for the coding reset and my sunroof's been working perfectly ever since. It's such a relief when these electronic gremlins turn out to be simpler fixes! Once they did the proper diagnostics and recoding, that annoying "Sunroof not initialized" message disappeared completely. Haven't had a single issue with it for the past month, everything's moving smoothly, no weird noises or anything. Really hoping your fix turns out to be something similarly straightforward. You're definitely doing the right thing getting it checked out soon. Better to catch these things early before they turn into bigger headaches!
Thanks for the follow-up! Just wanted to share what happened with my car. Finally got it checked out yesterday. Turns out my issue was a bit more complicated than yours. The mechanic found both a faulty motor and some damaged wiring in the sunroof system. What a pain! The repair hit my wallet pretty hard, around 800 bucks including parts and labor. They had to take apart quite a bit of the interior to get to everything. Took them almost a full day to fix it all up. But I've got to say, it's working like a charm now. The convertible top moves smoothly, and that annoying error message is finally gone. Really grateful for your advice about getting it checked quickly. You were right about catching these things early. The mechanic mentioned there was already some minor moisture buildup starting, so it could've been much worse if I'd waited longer. Anyway, thanks again for all your help! It's such a relief to have everything working properly again.
Let me share my experience with a similar issue on my 2014 BMW 2 Series. Had exactly the same error message and symptoms last month, sunroof completely frozen and showing initialization errors. Took it to the garage where they diagnosed it as a fault in the control module and motor assembly. They had to perform a complete reset and coding of the sunroof module, plus replace the motor unit as it had burned out. The sunblind was also jammed due to debris in the tracks. The repair was quite serious since they had to remove the headliner to access everything. They also updated the vehicle software as part of the fix. My car had about 115,000 km when this happened. Would strongly suggest getting it checked soon, as leaving it could lead to water damage if seals aren't closing properly. Make sure whoever looks at it has proper diagnostic equipment for BMW coding, that's essential for these electronic issues.
