Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience. I also have about 184590 KM on my BMW and just got it serviced last month. I'm not getting any specific error messages beyond the parking aid fault, but I did notice it started acting up after I had the rear bumper repainted due to some scratches. Maybe there's a connection there? The constant beeping is driving me nuts, and I was hoping it would be something simple like in your case. Think I'll get my tech to check those wire connections first before diving into anything more complex.
Hey again! That's really interesting about the timing with your bumper repaint. Actually, that sounds exactly like what might be causing your issue! When I was dealing with my sensor problems, my mechanic mentioned that repainting or any work on the bumpers can sometimes mess with the sensors if they're not properly reinstalled or if paint gets on them. In my BMW, the wiring for those sensors runs right behind the bumper, and they're pretty sensitive to any disturbance. Since you mentioned it started after the paint job, I'd bet money that something got knocked loose or maybe even got some paint overspray on it during the work. When my wire harness issue was fixed, it was actually pretty quick once they found the problem. Given your situation, I'd definitely have them check the connections first, especially around where they did the paint work. Could save you a bunch of money if it's just a simple reconnection like mine was. Before you go to the shop though, you might want to take a quick look at the sensors themselves, are they all sitting flush with the bumper? Sometimes they can get pushed in or pulled out a bit during bodywork. Just a thought based on what I learned from my experience!
Thanks so much for the detailed response! You've actually made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. I just went out and checked the sensors like you suggested, and I noticed one of them does look slightly recessed compared to the others, probably from when they were working on the bumper. I'll definitely mention both the wiring and sensor positioning when I take it in. Really hoping it's just a simple fix like yours was. The peace of mind knowing this is probably related to the recent bodywork rather than some major system failure is huge. I've booked it in for next week, and I'll be sure to have them check those connections first. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's given me a much clearer idea of what might be wrong and saved me from worrying too much about it being something major. Will try to be more careful about bodywork around sensors in the future! Thanks again for all the helpful info!
Hey there! I had something really similar happen with my 2017 BMW 3 series (also had a gas engine). I've got some experience working on cars, but parking systems are pretty tricky. Mine was also beeping like crazy in reverse, and the parking assist just died completely. Took it to my workshop and turns out it was just a loose connection to one of the parking sensors. The tech found a damaged wire harness that was causing the whole system to go haywire. Cost me about 95 Euro to get it sorted, mostly labor for tracking down the bad connection and fixing it. Would you mind sharing if you're getting any specific error messages or if you've noticed any other weird behavior? Also, have you had any recent work done near the bumpers? This could help narrow down where to look first.
