BMW 4 Series Misfires: Symptoms & Solutions Needed

Shaking while idling

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Help, Engine misfires driving me crazy! I've got a 2013 BMW 4 Series (gas engine) with about 150k km on the clock. My car's been acting up lately, jerking during acceleration, rough idle, sluggish response when pressing the gas, and the check engine light just popped on. Pretty sure it's misfiring. Had a bad experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Looking for recommendations on reliable mechanics who know their way around BMWs. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hey there! I can totally relate to your situation. I had very similar issues with my 2016 BMW 3 Series last year. The symptoms were exactly what you're describing, rough idle, jerking, and hesitation during acceleration. Turned out my fuel injector was defective on cylinder 2. It was quite a serious issue that needed immediate attention because bad injectors can cause further engine damage if left unchecked. In my case, the faulty injector wasn't delivering fuel properly, which caused the misfires. The mechanic had to remove and test all injectors, and they found one was completely clogged. They ended up replacing the faulty injector and cleaning the others. They also checked the fuel pressure and ran some diagnostics to ensure everything was working correctly afterward. Since the fix, my car's been running smooth as butter, no more jerking or rough idle. Your symptoms sound identical to what I experienced, so I'd definitely get those injectors checked out. Don't wait too long on this one. Regarding finding a good mechanic, I'd suggest looking for one who specializes in European cars and has BMW-specific diagnostic tools.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That definitely sounds similar to what happened with my BMW. I'm really glad you got it sorted out. Would you mind telling me how much you ended up paying for the whole injector replacement job? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just want to know what I might be in for!

Hey again! Glad to give you an update on my situation. After seeing the mechanic, they were spot on, it was indeed a faulty injector causing those nasty misfires. The whole job set me back 515 € to fix the defective injection valve, but honestly, it was worth every penny. I've got some good news for you, since getting it fixed, my car's been running absolutely perfect! No more misfires, no more jerking, and that annoying rough idle is completely gone. It's been like driving a completely different car. You know that smooth, responsive feeling when you hit the gas? That's what I got back. Haven't had a single issue pop up since the repair, and it's been a real relief. The engine runs super smooth now, and I'm actually enjoying driving my Beemer again instead of worrying about every little problem. Trust me, if your symptoms are similar, don't put it off like I initially did. Getting it fixed sooner rather than later could save you from bigger headaches down the road. Plus, you'll probably save some money by preventing any potential additional damage to the engine.

Thanks so much for all the details! I actually just got back from the mechanic today and you won't believe it, it was exactly what you described! Had a faulty injector in cylinder 3. The diagnostic tests picked it up right away. The repair cost was a bit steeper than yours, around 650 € because they found some minor carbon buildup they had to clean too. But wow, what a difference! Took it for a test drive and the car feels like new again. No more jerking, no more rough idle, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the push I needed to get it checked out right away instead of waiting. The mechanic said the same thing about potential engine damage if I'd left it longer. Definitely feels good to have it sorted. Thanks again for helping me avoid a bigger headache down the road!
