BMW 4 Electric Multiple Issues, Bad Injector Symptoms

Engine hard to start

|

Unsteady engine

|

Stalling while idling

|

Poor fuel economy

|

Loss of engine power

Hey everyone, having trouble with my 2021 BMW 4 Electric. The car's showing multiple issues, poor starting, power loss, rough idle, stalling, and failing emissions. Seems like it might be a faulty injection nozzle. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and workshop solutions. What should I look out for?

Hey there! I've got some experience with electric vehicles and had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW i3. Definitely sounds familiar. Had almost identical symptoms, the performance issues and starting problems were really annoying. Took it to my regular workshop and turns out the injection valve was super dirty. They had to do a thorough cleaning and some recalibration work. Set me back about 515 Euro, but it fixed all those problems you're describing. The BMW iX also tends to have these issues occasionally, from what I've heard from other owners. What's your current mileage and have you noticed any warning lights? Also, how long have these symptoms been showing up? Might help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same problem.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I've got 136848 KM on the clock, and these issues started showing up about two weeks ago. No major warning lights yet, just the occasional check engine light that comes and goes. Really hoping it's just a valve issue like yours and not something more serious. My last service was actually pretty recent, about three months ago, but these problems only started popping up lately. Might need to book another workshop visit by the sound of it.

Hey again! Yeah, sounds exactly like what I went through with my i3. The mileage on yours is pretty close to when I started having my issues too, I was at around 130,000 KM when everything started acting up. The intermittent check engine light is a classic sign, mine did the same thing. It's actually good that you had a recent service because that helps rule out a lot of other potential problems. Just to add to my previous experience, after the valve cleaning and recalibration, I also had them do a full diagnostic scan. Found out there was a small software update needed too, which helped optimize the system. The whole thing ended up being a bit pricier than I initially mentioned (closer to 600 Euro), but it was worth every penny. One thing I learned, don't wait too long to get it checked out. I tried driving with these symptoms for about a month, and it only made things worse. The fuel consumption especially just kept getting higher and higher. If you want, I can recommend the specific diagnostic tests that helped identify the problem in my case. Just let me know if you'd find that helpful!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! Really appreciate you sharing about the software update too, that's something I wouldn't have thought about. You've definitely convinced me to get it checked out sooner rather than later. I'd love to know about those specific diagnostic tests you mentioned. Actually, I'm going to call my workshop right now to book it in, no point waiting around while the problem potentially gets worse. After hearing about your experience, I'm feeling much more confident about what to expect and what to ask for. The price range you mentioned seems reasonable for the work involved, especially if it sorts out all these issues. Better to spend that money now than risk bigger problems down the line. Will keep you posted on what they find!
