Hey, thanks for sharing your experience with the suspension issue! That's really helpful information about the control rod sensor. Just curious, would you mind sharing roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair job? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks popping up? I've got my car booked in next week, so trying to get a rough idea of what I'm in for. Really appreciate your help!

Hey there again! I'm happy to tell you that since getting it fixed, everything's been working perfectly, no more height control warnings or any other issues! The suspension is now perfectly level and the headlights are properly aligned. Such a relief after dealing with those annoying symptoms. About the cost, I paid 110 € for the whole job. They fixed the control rod sensor issue, which was exactly what they suspected. Pretty reasonable price considering how much better the car drives now. It's nice not having that warning light staring at me from the dashboard anymore! Just make sure your mechanic checks the wiring harness too while they're at it. Mine was starting to corrode, and catching that early probably saved me from bigger problems down the road. Good luck with your repair next week! Let us know how it goes, always helpful for other BMW owners to hear about these experiences.

Thanks for the follow-up! I've actually just gotten back from my mechanic and wanted to share my experience. You were spot on about the control rod sensor. Just got mine fixed today, and what a difference! The suspension is perfectly balanced now, and those annoying dashboard warnings are finally gone. The repair was pricier than expected, ended up being about double what you paid, but they found some additional wear in the suspension components that needed attention. The best part? I found a different mechanic who really knew their stuff. Much better experience than my last one. They took the time to explain everything and even showed me the worn parts. The whole job took about 6 hours, but it was worth the wait. Car's driving like new again, and those misaligned headlights are sorted too. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Thanks again for your advice, it helped me know what to expect and push for a proper fix!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2010 BMW 5 Series diesel last month. Your symptoms sound exactly like what I dealt with, uneven suspension height and misaligned headlights. Turned out the control rod sensor was defective, which messes with the car's self-leveling system. Had to get it sorted at the garage where they diagnosed a faulty control rod sensor and corroded wiring harness. The repair involved replacing both components and recalibrating the system. It's not a quick fix, took them about 4-5 hours to complete everything. This isn't something you want to leave unattended. The faulty sensor can cause more damage to your suspension system if not fixed. In my case, the uneven height was already starting to affect tire wear. You'll definitely want to find a garage that specializes in BMW suspension systems. The generic mechanic route didn't work for me either, these systems are pretty specific to BMW models. Hope this helps with your decision-making.
