BMW 3 Hybrid Door Locks & Sensors Playing Up, Help!

Vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked

Hey everyone! My 2013 BMW 3 Hybrid is acting up with some door issues. Getting error messages about doors not being closed, plus the central locking system isn't working properly, can't lock or unlock doors, and the auto-lock while driving is dead. I suspect it might be related to door contact signals, but I'm not completely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Would love to hear your experiences, especially regarding workshop repairs and fixes. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey there! I have some experience with cars and had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW 5 Hybrid (also own a BMW 7). The door locking system was acting crazy, showing the same symptoms, false notifications and central locking problems. Took it to my workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty wiring connection to the door control module. They had to replace some cables and check all the plug connections. The whole thing cost me 95 Euro, and it's been working perfectly since then. Before I can give you more specific advice, could you share: Have you noticed any other electrical issues? Does this happen with all doors or just specific ones? Did this start suddenly or gradually? These details would help me understand if you're dealing with the same problem I had.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine has 186442 KM on the clock, and I'm experiencing this with all doors, which started quite suddenly last week. No other electrical issues so far, though my last service was about 2 months ago and everything was fine then. Your repair cost sounds reasonable, definitely better than what I was worried it might be. Did your workshop mention how long the repair typically takes? I'd rather avoid being without my car for too long if possible.

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details. Yeah, with the symptoms you're describing, it sounds exactly like what I dealt with on my BMW 5. Since you mentioned it's affecting all doors and started suddenly, I'm even more convinced it's similar to my issue. The repair on my car took about 3-4 hours total. My workshop guy told me it's not a super complicated job, but they need to be thorough when checking all the connections to make sure they catch everything. They actually let me wait at the workshop since it wasn't going to take all day. Just a heads up, with your mileage being around 186K, they might suggest checking the door control modules too, just to be on the safe side. Mine had slightly less mileage when this happened, but the wiring was the only issue in my case. Since you mentioned having service done 2 months ago, maybe give them a call? Sometimes these issues can pop up if something wasn't properly reconnected during routine maintenance. Worth asking about, at least. Want me to share the exact steps my workshop did? Might be helpful when you take it in.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really helpful to know about the repair time, 3-4 hours isn't bad at all, and I could probably arrange to work remotely from the workshop if needed. Would definitely appreciate knowing the exact steps your workshop took! I'll give my regular service center a call tomorrow to check about any possible connection to the recent maintenance work. I'm feeling much more confident about getting this sorted now that I know it's likely just a wiring issue rather than something major. Would you mind if I messaged you after I get it checked out to let you know if it was the same problem? Your experience has been super helpful!
