Thanks for your detailed response! My current mileage is 62945 KM and I just had my regular service done last month, though they didn't touch the transmission. The issue actually happens more when the car is warm, especially after driving for about 20 minutes. It's good to hear you had a similar experience with a straightforward fix. I'll definitely get the oil level checked first before replacing any sensors. Did you notice any improvement immediately after the oil change in your case?
Hey again! Yeah, with my BMW the improvement was almost instant after the oil change. The grinding noise disappeared completely, and the transmission started shifting smoothly again. The warning lights went off after starting the car the next morning. Since you mentioned it happens more when the car is warm, that's exactly what I experienced too. The symptoms getting worse with heat often points to low fluid levels or degraded transmission fluid. In my case, there was actually a small leak that caused the fluid to drop gradually, might be worth checking underneath your car for any spots on the ground where you usually park. What really surprised me was how quickly the transmission went from working fine to acting up. And just like your car, mine had recently been serviced too, but they hadn't checked the transmission fluid either. Since then, I've made it a point to specifically request a transmission fluid check during services. Would definitely encourage you to get that oil level checked first before spending money on sensors. If your fluid level turns out to be fine, then yeah, the pressure sensor could be the culprit, but start with the simple stuff first. Let me know how it goes!
Thanks so much for sharing your experience! This is super helpful, especially knowing about the quick improvement you saw after the oil change. I just checked under my parking spot and actually noticed some small dark spots, can't believe I didn't think to look before. You might be onto something with that leak theory. I've scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning to get the transmission fluid checked first. You're right about starting with the basics before jumping to replacing sensors. Really appreciate you taking the time to walk me through your experience, saved me potentially spending money on unnecessary repairs. Will definitely make transmission fluid checks a regular part of my service routine from now on! Thanks again for all your help. I feel much more confident about handling this now.
Hey there! I have some experience working on cars and had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW 3 Series (also had a 4 Series before). When I read your symptoms, it immediately reminded me of what happened to mine. Same warning lights, emergency mode, and those nasty grinding noises during shifts. Initially thought it was the sensor too, but turned out the gearbox oil level was critically low. After getting it checked at my regular workshop, they did a complete transmission oil change and system check. Total bill came to about 365 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. Before jumping to conclusions though, could you share: Current mileage on your car? When was your last transmission service? Does the problem happen more when the car is cold or warm? This info would help figure out if you're dealing with the same issue I had. These transmissions are pretty solid when maintained well, but they can be sensitive to oil levels.
