Check engine light on

Hi everyone! Having some trouble with my 2018 BMW 2 Series diesel (101k km) and need advice. My engine's running rough with occasional misfires while driving. The check engine light is on and the diagnostic showed a Reset Quantity Drift Compensation error. Had a bad experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Any recommendations on handling this issue would be really helpful. Thanks!

Hey there! I had almost identical symptoms with my 2015 BMW 1 Series diesel last year. The rough running and misfires turned out to be a faulty fuel injector. When the mechanic checked it, they found carbon buildup was preventing proper fuel delivery, leading to those Reset Quantity Drift Compensation codes you mentioned. For mine, two injectors needed replacement plus cleaning of the remaining ones. It was indeed a serious issue that needed immediate attention, if left unfixed, it could have damaged other engine components. Driving with faulty injectors can lead to poor fuel economy, more carbon deposits, and potential engine damage. Had it fixed at an independent BMW specialist. The whole process took about a day and included testing all injectors, replacing the faulty ones, and reprogramming the engine control unit. These symptoms aren't something you want to ignore, best to get it checked soon. Make sure whoever works on it has experience with modern diesel injection systems. They'll need proper diagnostic equipment to code the new injectors to your engine management system. Best of luck with the repair.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. It's good to know it was fixable and not something catastrophic. Would you mind sharing what you ended up paying for the whole job? Also, curious if you've had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? Really appreciate the help!

Hey again! Great to give you an update, I had this sorted last week actually. The whole job came to 515 € to fix the faulty injector, and I'm happy to report that Reset Quantity Drift Compensation error is now completely gone. The mechanic nailed the diagnosis, and it was exactly what I thought, just like I mentioned in my first message about the injector issues. Since the repair, my 1 Series has been running smooth as butter. No misfires, no rough running, nothing. The engine response is way better, and I can actually feel the difference in how the car drives now. Haven't had a single warning light or any other issues pop up. Honestly, it was worth every penny to get it sorted properly. The peace of mind alone is worth it, knowing I'm not risking any further damage to the engine. Sounds like you're dealing with the same thing I did, so I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later. Let me know how you get on with yours!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! I actually just got back from the mechanic today. Took your advice and found a good BMW specialist who really knew their stuff. Turns out you were spot on, it was the injector issue. I had to get one replaced and had the others cleaned up. Bill came to around 580 € total, bit more than yours but I guess prices vary. They also did a full system check while they were at it, which was reassuring. Car's running like a dream now! The difference is incredible, no more shaking or rough starts, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. Such a relief to have it sorted. Definitely learned my lesson about not waiting too long when these issues pop up. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me feel much more confident about getting it fixed. I'll keep an eye on things and hopefully won't have any more issues! Thanks again for all your help!
