BMW 2 Series Light Control Module Nightmare Revealed

Lights are turning on

Help needed, BMW 2 Series lighting system going crazy! Hey everyone! I've got a 2022 BMW 2 with about 91K km on it, and I'm dealing with some frustrating electrical issues. The lighting system has completely lost it, can't control any lights, low beam stays on permanently, and there's an error code stored. My gut feeling is it might be the light switch, but after a recent disappointing experience with my mechanic, I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone experienced similar lighting problems with their BMW? What was the actual issue and how much did the repair cost? Looking for recommendations on reliable fixes. Thanks in advance for any insights!

I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW 3 Series last month. The lighting system went haywire just like yours, stuck beams and unresponsive controls. Took it to the garage, and they found the Light Control Module connector was corroded and had loose pins. The technician cleaned the connection points and replaced the damaged pins in the harness plug. Also had to reset the system afterward. Despite looking like a major electrical problem initially, it wasn't too serious. The repair took about 2 hours. Just needed proper diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact issue. Could've been worse if water had gotten into other electrical components. Since the fix, everything's been working perfectly. I'd suggest getting it checked soon though, driving with malfunctioning lights isn't safe, and the issue could spread to other electrical systems if left unchecked.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful. I'm having a similar thing happening with my car right now and your symptoms match exactly what I'm dealing with. Quick question, would you mind sharing what the repair cost you? Also curious if you've had any other electrical gremlins pop up since they fixed it? Thinking about taking mine in but want to get an idea of what I'm looking at cost-wise.

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up about the cost since you asked. After taking it to the mechanic, it turned out to be exactly what I suspected, a faulty light switch causing all that chaos. They found a bad cable connection that was making everything go nuts. Total bill came to 95 € to fix the wonky connection, which honestly wasn't as painful as I expected! And good news, since getting it sorted, my car's been running like a charm. No more electrical gremlins or weird lighting issues at all. The headlights work exactly like they should now, and all the controls are responding perfectly. Really glad I got it checked out when I did. If your symptoms are matching what I had, it's probably something similar. Pretty straightforward fix once they know what they're looking for. Trust me, it's worth getting it sorted, driving with dodgy lights isn't worth the hassle or risk. Hope this helps give you an idea of what you might be looking at!

Thanks for all those details about the repair! I actually just got back from the mechanic today and wanted to update you on what happened with my car. Turns out my issue was a bit different, they found a damaged wiring harness that was causing all the lighting chaos. The repair cost me more than yours, around 250 bucks, but at least it's finally fixed! The mechanic I went to was actually really decent. They showed me exactly what was wrong and explained everything clearly, way better than my last experience. They had it done in about three hours, and now everything's working perfectly. No more crazy light show on my dashboard! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the push I needed to get it sorted instead of putting it off. Now I can finally drive at night without worrying about the lights doing their own thing. Thanks again for all your help!
