Thanks for your input. I haven't done any modifications to my car, it's completely stock. The issue started about a week ago, and the fault code I'm getting is P0300 (unusual/multiple cylinder misfire detected). Just had my service done at 146797 KM, and everything was fine before that. I'm thinking it could be related to the spark plugs or ignition coils, but I'm not entirely sure. Have you or anyone else experienced misfiring issues with their BMWs? Really hoping it's something simple and not too expensive to fix.
Hey again! Sorry to hear you're having this misfire issue. You know what? After you mentioned the P0300 code, it reminded me of another problem I had with my BMW 3 Series last year, completely separate from the ECU issue I mentioned before. I got the exact same code, and yeah, it turned out to be the ignition coils. My car was showing the same symptoms, jerking, reduced power, the whole deal. I ended up replacing all four coils and spark plugs since they were pretty worn out anyway. Total cost was about 400 for parts and labor, but it was totally worth it. Car's been running smooth as silk since then. Since you mentioned you just had a service, I'm wondering if maybe something got knocked loose during the work? The timing of it seems a bit suspicious. In my case, the issue started gradually, but it sounds like yours came on pretty suddenly. Quick tip from my experience, if you're planning to replace the coils, do all of them at once. I initially only replaced the one that was clearly bad, but ended up having to go back two months later for another one. Should've just done them all the first time! Let me know what you end up finding out. Really curious to hear if it's the same issue I had!
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience, this is super helpful! The timing of the issue right after the service does seem odd, now that you mention it. I'll definitely take your advice about replacing all the coils at once if that turns out to be the problem. 400 for parts and labor sounds way better than I was expecting, I was honestly worried it might be something major with the engine. I've got an appointment with my mechanic tomorrow morning, and I'll make sure to mention your experience with the ignition coils and spark plugs. It's really reassuring to hear that you had similar symptoms and it wasn't anything too serious. Will let the group know what my mechanic finds once I get it checked out. Thanks again for taking the time to help me troubleshoot this!
Hi there! I have some experience working on BMWs, and I actually faced a similar issue with my 2019 BMW 3 Series. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with. After my car started acting up like yours, I took it to my workshop and found out it was caused by a third-party chip tuning that messed with the engine control unit. It cost me around 180 to get it sorted, they had to reset and reprogram the ECU to factory settings. Before I can provide more specific help, could you share: Did you get any recent modifications done to your car? What's the exact fault code you're getting? When did these symptoms first start? Feel free to share more details so I can point you in the right direction based on my experience.
