Thanks for sharing your experience. My car currently has 150754 KM on the clock, and I just had it serviced last month. The symptoms you described with your fuel pump sound very similar to what I'm experiencing. I haven't noticed any excessive smoke, but there is a slight rattling noise when accelerating. It's quite concerning since this is a fairly new car. I'll definitely get it checked out asap, hopefully won't have to wait too long for parts if it turns out to be the same issue. Did the problem get progressively worse in your case?
Yeah, it definitely got worse over time in my case. Started just like yours, that annoying rattle during acceleration and the inconsistent performance. I tried to "live with it" for a couple of weeks, which honestly wasn't the smartest move. The rattling you mentioned really rings a bell, that's exactly how mine started. And considering your mileage is pretty close to what mine was when it happened (I was around 145000 KM), it's sounding more and more like the same fuel pump issue I dealt with. Listen, don't make the same mistake I did by waiting. Mine went from bad to worse pretty quickly. One day it was just running rough, and the next thing I knew, I was stuck in traffic with a completely stalled engine. Not fun at all! The repair cost might seem steep, but it's way better than risking more damage to other components. Also, since you mentioned having it serviced last month, maybe check if it's still under warranty? I didn't think to check at first and ended up paying out of pocket. Could've saved myself some cash if I'd checked earlier. Let me know what your mechanic says, I'm really curious if it turns out to be the same problem. These diesel engines are great when they're running right, but when something goes wrong, it's best to tackle it head-on.
Thanks so much for the detailed advice. You've convinced me, I'm not going to risk waiting around. Just called my workshop and booked it in for tomorrow morning. Really appreciate the heads up about the warranty too, I checked my paperwork and I've actually got about 2 months left on the extended warranty! What a lifesaver that could be. The fact that your symptoms match mine so closely, right down to the mileage, makes me pretty sure we're dealing with the same issue. I'll definitely avoid driving it much until it's checked out, don't fancy being stranded like you were! The thought of the engine completely stalling in traffic is pretty scary. I'll update you once I get the diagnosis. Really grateful for your help, it's given me a much better idea of what I might be dealing with. At least now I can go to the workshop with some knowledge instead of being completely in the dark about what's wrong.
I have some experience with diesel engines, and I actually had a very similar issue with my 2021 BMW 3 Series diesel last year. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced, the power loss and rough idle were particularly frustrating. Turned out my high-pressure fuel pump was failing. Got it fixed at my regular workshop, and including parts and labor, it set me back about 1510 Euro. The repair took about two days because they had to order the part. Before I had it fixed, I also experienced really inconsistent performance, sometimes it would run fine, then suddenly lose power. If you're experiencing the same, I'd strongly recommend getting it checked out soon before it potentially leaves you stranded. What's your mileage currently? Have you noticed any other symptoms, like excessive smoke from the exhaust or any unusual noises? This info would help determine if it's the same issue I faced.
