BMW 1 Series Xenon Lights Going Purple: Fix Needed

Error message in the speedometer

Hey everyone! Got a bit worried about my 2017 BMW 1 (182,377 km, gas engine). The dashboard's showing error messages, and I'm having issues with the lighting system. The xenon lights are starting to look purple, and the turn signals are acting up. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar lighting problems in their BMW 1? What was the actual issue, and did you find a reliable fix? Would appreciate hearing about your experiences and repair costs. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I faced similar issues with my 2014 BMW 2 Series last month. The symptoms were almost identical, purple xenon lights and funky turn signals. Turned out to be a bad connection in the headlight wiring harness, plus some corrosion on the ballast connector. The repair wasn't too complex at the garage. My mechanic found the faulty cables and replaced the corroded connector. Also needed a new ballast since the old one was damaged from the poor connection. While not a severe issue for the car's overall performance, it definitely needed fixing to avoid further electrical problems. The whole job took about 3 hours at the shop. Been driving for several weeks now, and everything's working perfectly, bright white xenon lights and properly functioning turn signals. If you've got similar symptoms, I'd suggest getting it checked soon before it affects other electrical components. Just make sure you find a mechanic who's familiar with BMW electrical systems, it makes a big difference. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's super helpful as I'm having the exact same trouble with my car. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repairs? Also, has everything stayed working properly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks popping up? Just want to know what I might be in for. Thanks!

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up, yeah, I had it fixed last month and it cost me 95 € to repair the faulty cable connection. The mechanic sorted out that defective turn signal issue completely, and I haven't had a single problem since! The lights are working perfectly now, no more weird blinking or anything. I was actually really relieved because I was worried it might be something more serious (and expensive!). The mechanic knew exactly what he was doing with the BMW electrical system, which made all the difference. Everything's stayed rock solid since the repair, no new electrical gremlins or anything like that. My car's running like a charm now. If you're having the same symptoms, it sounds like it could be a similar issue. Definitely worth getting it checked out, might save you from bigger problems down the road. Let me know if you need any other info! Cheers!

Thanks so much for all the details! Just wanted to update you, I took your advice and finally got my car checked out yesterday. You were spot on about finding a BMW-savvy mechanic. Found this great technician who immediately spotted the issue, same problem as yours, damaged wiring and a corroded connector. Repairs came in a bit higher at 150 € since I also needed a new ballast, but honestly, I'm just glad it's fixed. The lights are back to their proper white color, and those annoying dashboard warnings are gone. The turn signals are working perfectly too. Funny thing is, I was stressing about this for weeks, and it turned out to be a relatively straightforward fix. Should've done it sooner! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me know what to expect and gave me the push I needed to get it sorted. Thanks again for the help!
