Hey, no problem, I can understand that. I went through pretty much everything with my 3 Series until I finally found the solution. Maybe a few additional tips: If it really is the ignition coils or spark plugs, it can also lead to an incorrect mixture, which could damage the catalytic converter. Have you ever had this checked? And another thing: If you have the option of using an OBD scanner, search for specific error codes. This can really help to narrow down the problem. Sometimes the mixture also shows too rich, which could indicate a problem with the injection. So, I'll keep my fingers crossed that the problem can be solved quickly and cheaply. Let us know what comes out when you have the engine control unit checked. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the additional tips! I'll definitely have the ignition coils and spark plugs checked, and see if anyone has an OBD scanner to read out the error codes. Of course, it would be great if it ended up being something simpler like the ignition coils and not the control unit. I'll definitely get back to you as soon as I know more. Thanks again for your help! Best regards!

Hi! I'm seeking advice for a BMW 3 Series from 2013 with 215,500 km. The engine control warning light is on, and the car jerks while driving. What steps should I take to diagnose and fix this issue? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you for your help!
Start by checking the spark plugs and ignition coils as these are common causes of engine jerking. If these are fine, consider using an OBD scanner to read the error codes. This can help identify the problem. If the issue persists, it's best to have a professional mechanic inspect the car, as the problem could be more complex, like a faulty engine control unit.

Hello,
In my BMW E90 2009, 320i, the car shakes a lot, when reading out shows combustion misfires cylinder 4, my question is, do I have to replace the ignition coil, or is the problem somewhere else?, thank you in advance.
Misfires can be caused by a variety of issues, but a faulty ignition coil is a common cause. Start by swapping the ignition coil from cylinder 4 with another cylinder. If the misfire moves to that cylinder, then you know the ignition coil is the issue and needs to be replaced. If the misfire stays at cylinder 4, the problem could be with the spark plug, fuel injector, or even the cylinder itself. Please update us on your progress.
Hey, had a similar problem with my 2017 BMW 3 series. I have some experience with cars, but this was a tough one. In my case it was the engine control unit that was faulty - exactly the same symptoms as yours: black smoke, check engine light, loss of power, etc. I took the car to the garage, which replaced and reprogrammed the control unit. It cost me 1000 euros, but everything was tip-top again afterwards. Maybe it would help if you also had the engine control unit checked. Exactly what year was your 1 Series built? Best regards!
