BMW 1 Series Stalling: Fuel Pressure Sensor Alert

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Hey there! Anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their 2020 BMW 1 Series diesel? My check engine light is on, and the engine's running pretty rough. It keeps stalling when idle and jerks during acceleration. I think it might be the fuel pressure sensor, but I'm hesitant to go back to my mechanic after a previous bad experience. Car's at 157,455 km. Would appreciate hearing about your experiences and recommendations for getting this fixed! Thanks

Had almost identical issues with my 2017 BMW 2 Series diesel. Got it checked last month when the engine light came on. The symptoms matched yours exactly, rough idle, stalling, and jerky acceleration. Turned out it was a damaged wiring harness that connects to the fuel pressure sensor, plus some corroded pins in the main connector. The sensor itself was fine. My mechanic spotted it during diagnostics, dirt and moisture had gotten in there over time. This wasn't a major repair, just needed new wiring and connector replacement. Took about 2 hours to fix. The tricky part was accessing the connection point near the fuel rail. If you're having these symptoms, get it checked soon. Leaving it could lead to more serious fuel system damage. A qualified BMW technician should be able to diagnose this pretty quickly with the right diagnostic tools.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm relieved to hear it wasn't something more serious in your case. Would you mind sharing what the repair ended up costing you? Also curious if you've had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed?

Hey again! Glad I could help with my previous reply. Since you asked, I had it fixed last month and it cost me 95€ for the wiring and connector replacement. Pretty reasonable considering I was worried it might be something way more expensive! The good news is that since getting it sorted, my car's been running perfectly smooth, no more stalling or jerky movements. The fuel pressure sensor is working exactly as it should now. It was just that damaged cable and corroded connector causing all the drama. Haven't had a single issue pop up since the repair. The engine's purring like a kitten, and the check engine light has stayed off. Honestly, it was such a relief that it turned out to be something relatively simple and inexpensive. If you're experiencing the same symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later. My mechanic mentioned that catching these issues early can prevent more expensive problems down the road.

Just wanted to update you all, I bit the bullet and took my car to a different mechanic yesterday. You were spot on! They found the same issue with the wiring harness and corroded connector. The whole repair took about 3 hours and cost me a bit more than yours, but still way less than I was dreading. The mechanic was actually great, showed me the damaged parts and explained everything clearly. The car's running beautifully now, no more stalling or jerking. Such a relief! They also did a quick check of the surrounding components while they were at it, which gave me peace of mind. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me understand what I was dealing with and gave me the confidence to get it sorted. It's amazing how something as simple as damaged wiring can cause so much trouble! Lesson learned: won't be putting off these warning signs in the future. Take care!
