Thanks for the feedback! I have the gasoline model with just 14849 KM on it from the latest service. Mine is completely dead, no noise, no movement at all when pressing the adjustment controls. It's reassuring to hear yours was just a wiring issue with a straightforward fix. Were there any warning lights on your dash before it stopped working? I haven't noticed any on mine, it just stopped functioning one day out of the blue.
Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your 1 Series. Mine was actually very similar, completely dead silent when trying to adjust it, which sounds exactly like what you're experiencing. Interesting that you mention no warning lights because that's how mine started too, just stopped working suddenly with no previous signs or warnings. But here's where our cases might differ a bit, my car had way more mileage when this happened. With yours having such low mileage (14849 KM is really nothing for these cars), I'm starting to think it might not be the same wiring issue I had after all. These BMWs usually don't develop wiring problems that early. Actually, after hearing about your mileage, I'm wondering if it could be something simpler, like a blown fuse. Have you checked the fuse box yet? I know we jumped straight to thinking about the wiring harness because of my experience, but starting with the basics might save you some money. I'd definitely check that before heading to the workshop. Let me know if you want me to dig up my old repair documents, I might still have the exact part numbers for the connectors they replaced in mine, just in case you end up needing them.
Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! You know what, I feel pretty silly now, I hadn't even thought to check the fuse box. That's such a basic first step that I completely overlooked. You make a really good point about the low mileage too; it probably wouldn't make sense to have wiring issues this early. I'll definitely check the fuses first thing tomorrow morning. Would be amazing if it turns out to be something that simple! But if that's not it, I'd really appreciate those part numbers you mentioned, just to have them handy when I take it to the workshop. I've learned my lesson about these BMW electrical issues, always start with the simplest explanation first! Thanks again for taking the time to help me think this through. It's really helpful to hear from someone who's dealt with something similar, even if our issues might end up being different. I'll update you once I've checked those fuses!
Hi there! I had a similar issue with my 2010 BMW 3 Series last year. I've got some experience working on cars, but electrical issues aren't really my strong suit. My steering column adjustment also stopped working completely. Took it to my regular workshop and they found a loose connection in the wiring harness going to the adjustment motor. They had to replace some damaged cables and a connector. Total bill came to 95 Euro and it's been working perfectly since then. Before you head to a workshop, what engine variant do you have in your 1 Series? Also, does it make any noise when you try to adjust it, or is it completely dead? Might help pinpoint if you're dealing with the same problem I had.
