BMW 1-Series Misfiring: Multiple Warning Signs Emerge

Poor fuel economy

|

Stalling while idling

|

Loss of engine power

|

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hey car enthusiasts, need urgent advice about my 2010 BMW 1 (gas engine, 51k km). My car's acting up pretty badly, jerking during acceleration, drinking way more fuel than usual, and I'm getting smoke when I step on the gas. Engine feels weak and sometimes stalls at idle. My last mechanic experience wasn't great, so I'm hesitant to go back. I suspect it might be the injection system, but would love to hear from anyone who's dealt with similar symptoms. Did you get it fixed? What was the actual problem? Any recommendations for handling this? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had really similar issues with my 2013 BMW 3 Series last year. The symptoms you're describing are almost identical to what I experienced, especially that jerking during acceleration and increased fuel consumption. Turned out the problem was a faulty fuel injector connector that was causing poor electrical contact. The smoke and rough idle were dead giveaways. When I finally took it to the garage, they found corroded wiring in the connector housing, which was disrupting the injector signals. This was actually a serious issue that needed immediate attention since bad injector timing can cause engine damage if left unchecked. The fix involved replacing the wiring harness and connectors for the injector system. Got it sorted in about a day's work. Based on your symptoms, I'd strongly suggest getting it checked soon, it's likely not something that'll fix itself. These injection system issues can get worse pretty quickly if ignored.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since I'm dealing with the exact same symptoms. Glad to hear you managed to get it fixed. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Always good to know what to watch out for with these injector problems.

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up about the costs since you asked. I actually just had this fixed last week, only cost me 95 € to repair that faulty cable connection in the injection system. It was basically just a dodgy connector that needed sorting out, way less painful on the wallet than I initially feared! And I've got some good news, my BMW's running like a dream now! The jerking's completely gone, fuel consumption's back to normal, and no more smoke or stalling issues. It's amazing what fixing one small electrical connection can do. The engine's got its power back and feels super smooth again. I'd definitely say go for it and get yours checked out. These injection system problems can sound scary, but sometimes it's just a simple fix like mine was. Haven't had a single problem since getting it sorted, and honestly, I wish I'd done it sooner instead of worrying about it. Good luck with yours!

Thanks for all the advice! I actually bit the bullet and took my car to a mechanic yesterday. You were spot on, it was an electrical issue with the injection system. Got it sorted for around 120 bucks, which wasn't nearly as painful as I'd feared. The mechanic I found was actually super helpful. They showed me exactly what was wrong and fixed it within a couple of hours. Had a dodgy connector that was messing with the fuel delivery. You should've seen my face when they started it up after the fix, runs beautifully now! No more jerking, no smoke, and the engine's got its punch back. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Guess sometimes you just need that push from someone who's been through it. Thanks again for helping me avoid what could've been a much bigger headache down the road!

Let our mechanics help you!
