BMW 1 Series Emergency Call System Failure, Help Needed

Emergency system without function

Hey everyone! My 2020 BMW 1 diesel has been acting up lately with some emergency call system issues. The error memory shows a fault, there's no Check Control message appearing, and the emergency call function only works for a reduced time period. I suspect it might be related to a drained emergency call battery. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and what the workshop did to resolve it. Any tips on troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I've got some experience with car maintenance, and I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW 3 Series diesel last year. Those emergency call system problems can be really annoying! My X3 had exactly the same symptoms, the emergency call system was acting weird and only working intermittently. Took it to my regular workshop and they confirmed it was indeed the emergency battery being completely drained. They replaced it and recalibrated the system, cost me around 110 Euro total. The job was pretty straightforward and took them about an hour. Could you share what engine variant you have in your 1 Series? Also, have you noticed any other electrical issues? This info would help me give you more specific advice based on my experience. Just a heads up, these emergency batteries typically last about 4-5 years, so considering your car's age, it's probably due for a replacement anyway.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I've got the 2.0L diesel engine with 104135 KM on the clock. Actually, I haven't noticed any other electrical issues at all, everything else works perfectly fine. The car just had its service last month too, but they didn't mention anything about the emergency battery during the inspection. That's really helpful to know about the replacement cost and timeframe. I'll definitely get it checked out at the workshop then, especially since you had such a similar issue. Seems like a pretty reasonable fix, and better to get it sorted sooner rather than later. Thanks again for the insights! It's always reassuring to hear from someone who's dealt with the same problem.

Hey again! Yeah, your situation sounds exactly like what I dealt with. My 3 Series had about 98000 KM when I had the battery issue, so pretty similar mileage to yours. It's interesting that your recent service didn't catch it, my workshop missed it during routine checks too. These emergency batteries can be a bit sneaky since they're separate from the main electrical system. Just be aware that with the 2.0L diesel (I've got the same engine), there's a specific battery type they need to use. When they replaced mine, they mentioned that getting the right one was crucial for the emergency call system to work properly. After my replacement, everything's been working perfectly for the past year. No more emergency system errors or reduced functionality. Just make sure they do that recalibration I mentioned before, it's really important for these BMW systems. If you want, I can let you know the exact battery type they used in mine. Just thought that might be helpful when you take it to the workshop. These BMWs can be particular about their parts! Let me know how it goes when you get it fixed. Always good to compare notes with fellow BMW owners!

Thanks everyone, especially for all the detailed info about your experience with the 3 Series! I've just booked my car in at the workshop for next week. You've definitely convinced me that it's the emergency battery, especially since our cars have such similar mileage and symptoms. I'd really appreciate knowing the exact battery type they used in yours. I'll mention it when I take the car in, might help speed things up. Plus, it's good to be informed when discussing repairs with the mechanics. I'll make sure they do that recalibration you mentioned too. Wouldn't want to risk having the same issue pop up again just because of a skipped step. Really glad I asked here first, feels much better going to the workshop knowing exactly what to expect. I'll update you all once it's fixed. Thanks again for all the help, this is exactly why I love getting advice from other BMW owners who've been through the same issues!

Let our mechanics help you!
