BMW 1 Series Diesel Misfire: Urgent Help Needed

Hi everyone! Need some advice about my 2009 BMW 1 Series diesel (33,578 km). The engine's been acting up lately, jerking during acceleration, sluggish response when I hit the gas, and running pretty rough overall. Check engine light is also on. I suspect it might be misfiring. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Any recommendations on what to look out for or what questions I should ask the mechanic? Thanks for any input!

Hey there! Had the exact same symptoms with my 2012 BMW 3 Series diesel last winter. The jerking and rough running was identical to what you're describing. After diagnostic tests, it turned out to be a faulty fuel injector, specifically the third cylinder injector was shot. Not going to sugarcoat it, it's a serious issue that needs immediate attention. Left unchecked, it can damage your engine. When I got it fixed, they had to replace the defective injector and do a complete system calibration. The whole job took about two days at the garage. Make sure your mechanic runs proper diagnostic tests and checks the fuel pressure. Ask them to show you the diagnostic readings, you want to see the actual data. Also, get them to check if there's any carbon buildup, as this can sometimes cause similar symptoms. Good luck with the repair.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience with the injector issue. That's really helpful info, and it does sound exactly like what I'm dealing with. Would you mind telling me how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, just curious, have you had any other problems pop up since getting it fixed? Really appreciate the advice about the diagnostic readings and carbon buildup check. Sounds like I better get this sorted soon before it gets worse.

Hey again! Happy to update you, got it fixed last week actually and I'm glad to report my 3 Series is running smooth as silk now. Remember those misfires I mentioned? All gone! The mechanic confirmed it was indeed the injector (just like I suspected), and they got it all sorted out. Damage to my wallet was 515 €, not cheap, but honestly, considering it's completely solved the issue, I'd say it was worth every penny. Since the repair, the car's been performing like a champ, no more jerking, no rough running, nothing. It's like driving a different car! And no, haven't had a single problem since the fix. If you're experiencing the same symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked ASAP. Those injector issues don't fix themselves, and the longer you wait, the more you risk damaging other parts. The peace of mind alone is worth it, no more worrying about whether the car's going to act up during my drive. Let me know how it goes when you get yours looked at!

Thanks a lot for the update! I actually just got back from the mechanic yesterday. You were spot on, it was the injector causing all the trouble. Had it replaced and wow, what a difference! The car's running like new again. Funny enough, my bill came in pretty close to what you paid. Hurt the wallet a bit, but definitely better than risking more engine damage. The mechanic was really thorough and showed me all the diagnostic readings, just like you suggested. Even pointed out some carbon buildup they cleaned up while they were at it. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. No more jerky rides or check engine lights! Thanks again for your help, saved me a lot of worry about what I was dealing with. Sometimes it's just good to hear from someone who's been through the same thing. Catch you around, and thanks for all the solid advice!
