BMW 1 Series Blower Fan Dead, Seeking Repair Advice

Blower does not work properly

|

Fault stored

Hi all! Having trouble with my 2004 BMW 1 Series (194K km, gasoline engine). The blower fan isn't working at all, and there's an error code stored. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? Would love to hear about your experiences and any trustworthy mechanics who actually fixed this problem without overcharging. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Had the exact same issue with my 2007 BMW 3 Series last winter. Initially thought it was just the fan speed control module, but turned out the entire blower motor was shot, making that distinctive grinding noise before it completely stopped working. Took it to the shop after trying the basic fuse check at home. The mechanic showed me the burned-out motor and corroded wiring harness that needed replacement. Not a super complex job, but definitely requires proper diagnosis and BMW-specific knowledge. It was a serious issue since you can't run the defrost or AC without it. The repair included replacing the blower motor, resistor pack, and wiring harness. Had zero issues since then, and the climate control works perfectly now. Definitely worth getting it fixed properly the first time, wouldn't want you to waste money on partial fixes like I initially considered. Hope this helps with your decision. Best regards

Hey, thanks a lot for sharing your experience! I went through the same hassle with my BMW and it's really helpful to hear how you resolved it. Would you mind sharing how much the whole repair ended up costing you? Also, wondering if you've had any other electrical gremlins pop up since getting it fixed? Trying to figure out if I should prepare for any related issues down the line.

Hey again! Just wanted to update you, I got my blower motor issue sorted out and it cost me 365 € in total. The mechanic diagnosed it correctly as a faulty blower motor, just like I suspected when I first replied to your post. Really happy with how it turned out, the fresh air blower's working perfectly now, no more dealing with foggy windows or that annoying lack of air flow! And to answer your question about other electrical issues, nope, haven't had any other problems pop up since getting it fixed about 8 months ago. Everything's running smoothly in the electrical department. The climate control system's working like a charm, just like when the car was new. I think we got lucky that it was just the blower motor and nothing more serious. These BMWs can sometimes throw electrical curveballs at us, but this was a straightforward fix once the right part was replaced. Money well spent in my opinion, can't put a price on proper heating and cooling! Let me know if you need any other info!

Thanks for the detailed update! I finally got mine fixed last week and had a pretty similar experience. The mechanic I found was actually great, super transparent about everything. Ended up paying a bit more, around 400 €, but they replaced both the motor and some worn-out wiring while they were in there. Funny enough, the whole repair took less time than I spent worrying about finding a trustworthy shop! The mechanic showed me the old parts, they were pretty shot. No wonder the fan wasn't working at all. The best part is the car feels like new now, no more sweating without AC or dealing with fogged-up windows on cold mornings. Really appreciate you sharing your experience earlier, it helped me know what to expect and gave me confidence to get it sorted. Fingers crossed we both stay electrical-issue-free for a good while! Thanks again for all your help!
