ABS/DSC system is not working

Hello everyone, my 2009 BMW 1 Series Diesel (187,654 km) has recently started to cause me problems. The ABS/DSC systems no longer work, the power steering is not working and the steering wheel vibrates/shakes a lot. Could this be due to the steering angle sensor? Unfortunately, I didn't have a good experience at the last workshop visit. Has anyone had similar problems and what was your experience at the workshop? I would appreciate your tips and experiences! Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2011 BMW 3 Series. The symptoms you describe actually fit well with a defective or incorrectly coded steering angle sensor. In my case, ABS and DSC didn't work either, and the power steering was also affected. The workshop found that the steering angle sensor had to be recoded. This was no small problem, because incorrect coding can affect the entire safety system. The workshop then carried out the correct coding and also recalibrated the sensor. The problem was then solved and everything worked perfectly again. You should definitely have it checked. I can also recommend that you find a workshop that is familiar with BMWs. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for your quick reply! Do you remember how much you paid for the coding and calibration? Did you have any other problems afterwards or was everything ok? Thank you very much!

Hi, yes, I remember that. After I went to the garage, the steering angle sensor defect was fixed. The coding of the sensor was faulty and it cost €195. Since then, everything has worked perfectly and I have had no further problems. The ABS/DSC systems and the power steering are now working again without any problems. I hope this helps you! Good luck with your BMW!

Hello, many thanks for the information. 195 € sounds reasonable if everything works again afterwards. I will definitely have it checked at a workshop that knows BMWs. Your tip has really helped me! Best regards
