Blank Astra Nav Screen: Real Repair Costs & Solutions

Navigationssystem is not working

Hi everyone, I've got a 2005 Vauxhall Astra Diesel with a non-working nav system. The screen is completely blank. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? I'd really appreciate hearing about repair experiences, especially from those who got it fixed at a workshop. What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I have some experience with car electronics and had a similar issue with my 2003 Vauxhall Vectra Diesel last year. The display completely died on me too. Took it to my local workshop and turns out the display unit itself was faulty, these units tend to fail over time. They had to replace the entire display module. Cost me around 725€, parts and labor included. What's your Astra's mileage? Also, did the screen die suddenly or was it showing signs before (dimming, flickering)? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same problem I had.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My Astra's at 279875 KM and had its last service about two months ago. The screen actually died quite suddenly, was working fine one evening, and completely blank the next morning. No flickering or dimming beforehand, which makes me think it might be different from your Vectra issue. That price you mentioned is quite steep, really hoping mine won't cost that much to fix! Let me know if you've heard of any other potential causes. Cheers!

Hey again! Actually, hearing that your screen died suddenly without any warning signs makes me think it might be different from what I experienced with my Vectra. In my case, the screen was giving me trouble for about two weeks, getting dimmer and occasionally flickering before it completely gave up. Since your nav system died overnight, it could also be a fuse or wiring issue, which would be much cheaper to fix than a full display replacement like I needed. I wish I'd checked these simpler things first before going straight for the display replacement, might've saved myself some cash! Have you tried checking the fuse box yet? If I remember correctly, there should be a specific fuse for the nav system, might be worth taking a look there first. My mechanic later told me these are common issues with Vauxhalls from that era. Keep me posted on what you find out. Would be great to know if you can get it sorted for less than what I paid! Cheers, Mike

Thanks Mike, that's really helpful advice! I actually hadn't thought about checking the fuse box, that's definitely going to be my first move now. You've probably just saved me from rushing straight to an expensive repair job! I'll dig out my manual tonight and locate the right fuse to check. If that doesn't work, I'll still get it checked at the workshop, but at least I can tell them I've already ruled out the fuse issue. I'll let you know what I find, fingers crossed it's just a simple fuse problem and not a complete display failure like yours. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and the extra tips! Cheers!
