Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hello, repair professionals! I have problems with my 2010 Audi A7 Diesel. The following problem: When accelerating, it blows out black smoke, the engine light comes on, and sometimes the engine just stalls. The engine runs rough, there is a jerking when accelerating, the consumption is high, the exhaust smells strongly and sometimes it dies at idle. I thought it might be due to a faulty fuel volume regulator. Does anyone have experience with these symptoms and can help me? How did you get it fixed at your garage? I look forward to hearing your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I once had a similar problem with my 2012 Audi A5 diesel, so a model from the same brand. Now, I only have a little experience with cars, but I'm no expert. After my car showed similar symptoms, I went to my garage. There, after reading the fault code, they told me that the high-pressure pump was faulty. It had to be replaced, which cost me 1510 euros. To be able to help you better, it would be useful if you could give me a little more information about your vehicle. Are there any special circumstances that occurred before the problems? Hope that helps. Cheers mate!

Hi, I really appreciate your help, thank you! The problems started suddenly, without any particular incident. I bought the car at the time with about 240,000 km and now it has 262,310 km on the clock. My last service was about 10,000 km ago. High pressure pump, huh? That sounds expensive... but I think it's still better than buying a new car. Will follow your advice and get a quote from the garage. Thanks again and cheers!

Hello again, you're right, unfortunately repairing a high-pressure pump can be very expensive. But given your symptoms, it could well be that this is the problem. Of course, I can't guarantee this from afar and it's always better to consult a specialist locally. You could also use an OBDII scanner to see what fault codes the vehicle is spitting out. If you're lucky, it might even just be a problem with the fuel filter, which would be a much cheaper repair. However, and if I may be completely honest, with over 260,000 km, it could also be that your A7 is just getting a bit "tired" and it's time to look for a replacement. I hope this helps. Take care and keep us up to date! Cheers!

Hello, thank you very much for your detailed reply and advice. I think you're right that it might be time to think about replacing it. However, I will have the garage check first and maybe use the OBDII scanner to see what fault codes are showing. A new car would be nice of course, but if the repair isn't too expensive, it would probably be a cheaper solution. I'll definitely keep you posted on what comes up. Thanks again and take care! Cheers!

This could be due to a faulty airbag sensor or a problem with the wiring. It's a safety-relevant issue, so I would recommend getting it checked by a professional mechanic as soon as possible. Please keep us updated on the progress. Do you have any other questions?
