Thanks so much for sharing your experience! This definitely sounds similar to what happened with my Eclipse Cross. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you paid for the whole repair? And has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Hoping to get a better idea of what I'm in for!
Hey again! Yeah, happy to help. I had my Outlander fixed at a certified Mitsubishi dealer and the total came to 515€ for the cold start injector replacement. Worth every penny though, the car's been running like a dream since then! It's been over a year now, and I haven't had a single issue with black smoke, rough starts, or engine cutouts. The cold start injector was definitely the culprit in my case, just like I suspected. The mechanic confirmed it was faulty and not atomizing the fuel properly. Once they replaced it and cleaned the fuel system, all those annoying symptoms disappeared completely. If your symptoms are as similar as they sound, you might be looking at a similar repair cost. I'd definitely recommend getting it sorted sooner rather than later, it's not worth risking more expensive engine damage by waiting too long. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out!
Thanks again for all the details! Just wanted to update you on what happened. I took your advice and got my Eclipse Cross checked out last week. You were spot on, it was indeed the injector causing all the trouble! Found a really good mechanic through a 's recommendation. The total repair came to about 490€, which wasn't as bad as I feared. They replaced the faulty injector and did a thorough fuel system cleaning too. The whole thing took about 6 hours. Best part? My car's running perfectly now! No more black smoke, starts up right away in the mornings, and the engine light's finally off. Such a relief! Should've done this way sooner instead of worrying about it. Thanks again for pushing me to get it fixed quickly. You probably saved me from some serious engine damage! Really appreciate all your help!
Hi there, I had similar issues with my 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander last year. Those symptoms definitely sound like injector problems, I went through almost the exact same thing. Mine was rough starting, black smoke, and the engine would sometimes cut out while driving. Turned out I had two faulty fuel injectors that needed replacement. The diagnosis showed they weren't atomizing the fuel properly, which caused the black smoke and poor performance. It was quite a serious issue that needed immediate attention because bad injectors can damage other engine components if left unfixed. The repair took about a day at the garage, and they had to use specialized diagnostic equipment to identify which injectors were failing. They also cleaned the entire fuel system while they were at it. Been running smooth ever since. Don't wait too long to get it checked, running with faulty injectors can lead to bigger problems down the line. Hope this helps with your decision!
