Hey, thanks for your quick reply! It's reassuring to know that I'm not alone with this problem. You said that you had to replace the diesel particulate filter in your Benz. Can you remember how much you paid for it? And has anything else come up since then? Really was a cool help, thanks again!

Hi dude, I'm glad I could help you! Yes, it's true, replacing the diesel particulate filter was quite expensive at the time. I paid around €1550 to replace the internally defective filter with a new one. But everything went really smoothly! Since I've been to the mechanic, the defect in the diesel particulate filter has been fixed and everything is running smoothly again. There were no further complications or anything like that. To be honest, the car has been running better than ever since then! I hope it will run just as well for you. So cheer up, buddy!

Hey, thanks for sharing! It's a bit pricey, but if it really solves my problem and the car runs better than before, then it's definitely worth it. Seems like a trip to the mechanic is inevitable. I'll keep you posted and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for your help, buddy!

@Achimus
Car drives normally despite long highway drive, light does not go out.
It sounds like you're dealing with a persistent check engine light. This could be due to a variety of reasons, from a loose gas cap to a faulty sensor. I'd recommend getting the error codes read with an OBD-II scanner. This will give you a better idea of what the issue might be. If you don't have a scanner, many auto parts stores will read the codes for you for free. Please update us on the error codes you get, so we can help you further. Do you have any other questions or concerns?
Hi mate, I know this problem all too well! Had similar symptoms with my 2016 Mercedes S-Class diesel some time ago. Yes, it was actually the diesel particulate filter. It was internally defective in my car. This was responsible for the thick black clouds of smoke, the reduced engine power, the increased fuel consumption and even the annoying check engine light. Unfortunately, this is a serious matter. Absolutely annoying fault, especially because of the constant DPF regeneration errors. They had to replace the whole filter at my garage. It wasn't a pleasant day, but since then the engine has been running like clockwork again, without smoke or performance problems, and fuel consumption is also back to normal. Be sure to have it checked at the garage! I hope your experience there will be better this time. Good luck, Buddy!
