Black smoke and loss of power in the 2010 Ford C Max: Possible problems with the fuel injection system

Loss of engine power

Stalling while idling

Check engine light on

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Strong exhaust smell

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

Engine shuts off by itself

Poor fuel economy

Hi guys! I am concerned about my 2010 Ford C Max with 99334 km on the clock and a gasoline engine. Black smoke when accelerating, check engine light is on, engine stalls by itself, loss of engine power, rough engine running, jerking when accelerating, poor fuel economy, strong exhaust odor and idle stall all driving me crazy. I think it might be to do with the fuel injection system. Has anyone had similar problems? What are your experiences with garages that fix this? After my last visit to a mechanic, I've become really cautious. Any tips and advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello, the symptoms were similar with my 2013 Ford Focus and in the end it was a defective engine control unit. The car ran incredibly rough and the jerking when accelerating was simply unbearable. At the workshop, the fault memory was read out and the bad news was delivered. It wasn't fun, but at least my Ford was running smoothly again after the replacement - no more annoying check engine light, no more smoke and no more loss of power. Just in case you might have a similar problem, I'd get that checked out. Hope this helps you out! Let us know what comes out. All the best mate.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply and your tips! Your experience sounds really similar to my situation. If it's the engine control unit, then it's really no walk in the park. Can you perhaps remember what you paid for the repair? And how have things been since the repair? Have there been any other problems or is everything running smoothly again? I would be super grateful for any information. See you then!

Oh yes, the repair wasn't exactly cheap, I left a good €1000 for the broken engine control unit. But don't let the figure put you off, it's definitely worth it. And as for the after-effects, everything has been great so far. Since I went to the mechanic, the functional restriction of the fuel injection has been rectified. The car runs like new again, no more stuttering or stalling - just clean performance. I'd say if you have similar problems, it's definitely worth checking. And believe me, it feels great to have a car that runs smoothly again! Let me know what you come up with. See you then and good luck buddy!

Hello, thank you very much for your valuable information! It's reassuring to hear that your car is running smoothly after the repair. The cost is certainly not small, but if it fixes the problems then it's definitely worth it. I think I have a pretty good idea now and will be making an appointment at the garage soon. Hopefully my car will run like new again after the repair. Really good to know that I'm not the only one with this problem and that there is a solution. I'll definitely get back to you as soon as I have more information. Thanks again for your help and advice! See you then, and let's keep in touch buddy!
