Black smoke and loss of power in Seat Leon Diesel 2019: experience with workshop visits wanted

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Poor fuel economy

DPF regeneration failure

Unsteady engine

Hello, repair professionals! My 2019 Seat Leon Diesel with just under 119,500 km on the clock is causing me some concern. When accelerating, there's black smoke coming out of the exhaust, the engine runs unevenly and there's no more power. The DPF regeneration no longer wants to work and fuel consumption is high. The check engine light is constantly on. Could be something with the exhaust back pressure sensor. Has anyone had a similar problem and can tell me what they found when they visited the workshop? It's quite annoying, especially after the last bad experience at the mechanic... Thanks in advance!

Hi, I understand what you mean, I had a similar problem with my 2016 Seat Ibiza Diesel. For me, a constant engine light and also this rough running led to me going to the garage. I remember my mechanic saying something about a clogged particulate filter. Apparently it was a serious problem, dampening performance and causing fuel consumption to skyrocket, similar to yours. But don't worry, the problem was solved. Sometimes these things just happen. Had to get by without a car for a few days, but better than having permanent problems. Maybe this will help you. Greetings!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. Sounds like what's going on with my Leon. Do you remember roughly how much the repair cost? And has anything else similar occurred since then? Just want to make sure I don't have to keep going to the garage... Thanks again for your help! Greetings back!

Hi, sure, no problem, I'll be happy to help you. After I visited the mechanic, the faulty exhaust back pressure sensor was repaired. Nothing similar has happened since then. I'm really glad about that. I had to pay €102 for the repair. The rubber hose from the DPF to the sensor was clogged/leaking and had to be replaced, hence the cost. I know it's annoying when you have to spend money on things like that, but better than constant garage visits, right? If you have any other questions, let me know. All the best! Greetings!

Hi, I really appreciate your help. The price info is very helpful, that shouldn't be a shock when the mechanic tells me the amount. Knowing more really helps ease the anxiety of potential car problems. Good to know you haven't had to deal with similar difficulties again either. I hope it goes just as well for me. Thanks again for your advice and if I have any more questions, I'll be sure to get in touch! Take care! Best regards!
