Black smoke and loss of power in diesel Seat Leon: Possible diesel particulate filter problems?

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

DPF regeneration failure

Strong exhaust smell

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hi guys, I have a problem with my diesel Seat Leon (built in 2015, mileage 224,356 km)... black smoke comes out when accelerating and the Check Engine light flashes. I also notice a loss of power and the DPF regeneration fails. On top of that, there's a strong exhaust smell. I think this could be due to the diesel particulate filter... Do any of you have experience with this? Did your garage solve it well? I had quite a bit of trouble at the garage last time, so I'd be interested to know what your experiences were... Thanks in advance!

Hello, Yes, I had exactly the same problem with my diesel Seat Ibiza (built in 2012). The smoke, the lights, the whole nine yards. It turned out that it was actually the diesel particulate filter that was defective due to high mileage. So you're probably right about that. The diesel particulate filter was then simply replaced in the workshop. This is a standard procedure and they did a good job. But it was already at a high mileage, so the replacement made sense. A defective DPF is actually a serious matter because it not only affects the performance of your car, but can also lead to increased emissions. So don't wait too long to get it checked! Hope that helps you, buddy. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! Nice to hear that it was resolved for you. Do you remember how much it cost to replace the diesel particulate filter? And has there been another problem since then or is your Seat Ibiza now running without any problems? LG!

Hey, sure, no problem! Replacing the diesel particulate filter cost me €1550, which was quite a lot of money, but since then my diesel Seat Ibiza has been as good as new. After the mechanic fixed the "diesel particulate filter heavily loaded" issue, there have been no further problems. It runs so smooth now man, you wouldn't believe it. So hope your Seat Leon will run just as smoothly, despite the silly experience at the last workshop visit. Best wishes!

Hey, great that it went so well for you! 1550 is a hefty sum, but if my Seat Leon runs smoothly again afterwards, it's worth the price. Thanks for the experience and the good advice! See you then and drive carefully! LG!
