Hi, thanks for your input! That definitely sheds some light on things. Your experience sounds pretty much identical to what my DS4 is going through. I hadn't even had the lambda sensor on the screen. Good point. Can I ask approximately how much it cost to replace? Have you had anything similar crop up again since then? Must finally make my way to a trustworthy garage after this. Just need to find the right one, which is sometimes easier said than done.

Hey, I'm glad I could help you! It cost me €375 to replace the lambda sensor. Since I went to the mechanic, the exhaust aftertreatment malfunction has been fixed and I haven't had any more similar problems. So, yes, I would definitely recommend you find your way to a garage you trust. It's a bit of a pain sometimes, but it's worth it in the end. Hope this helps you!

It sounds like a serious issue. Black smoke, loss of power, and the check engine light suggest engine or exhaust system problems. I would recommend getting a second opinion from a reputable mechanic. It could be related to the exhaust aftertreatment system. Anyone else experienced this?
It's definitely a good idea to have your car checked by a professional mechanic. The symptoms you've described could be due to a variety of issues, including a malfunctioning fuel injector, a clogged air filter, or a problem with the engine control unit (ECU). However, given the black smoke and the intense exhaust smell, it's also possible that there's an issue with your car's exhaust aftertreatment system. This is a safety-relevant issue and should be addressed as soon as possible.
Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Citroen DS4. Theoretically it can have several causes, but in my case it was actually the defect in one of the lambda sensors. The lambda sensor measured the oxygen content in the exhaust gas and adjusts the engine management for optimal combustion. If it's not working, this can lead to increased fuel consumption and, in the worst case, affect the exhaust performance - which can probably lead to the symptoms you describe. The repair was relatively simple and straightforward - they had to remove the old sensor and fit a new one. Didn't really take long. Was a bit annoying, but definitely nothing major compared to other problems that can occur. Of course, there could be other causes, so I would recommend taking your car to a reputable garage and getting it checked out.
