Black smoke and loss of power in 2017 Mercedes GLE Class: Possible defect in the fuel pressure sensor?

Poor fuel economy

Strong exhaust smell

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Longer cold start time

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2017 Mercedes GLE Class with gasoline engine. For some time now, it has been emitting black smoke when accelerating, the check engine light is on and it has a longer cold start time. There is also a loss of power, jerking when accelerating and increased fuel consumption. In addition, the exhaust smells quite strong. I suspect that the fuel pressure sensor may be faulty. Has anyone else had similar problems? How did you get the problem solved at your garage and what was your experience? Any tips are welcome! Thanks in advance.

Hey, I'm not a car professional but have a little experience with cars. Had a similar problem with my 2015 Mercedes E-Class. After going to the garage, it turned out that the cable connections were defective. The cost of the repair was 155 euros. Perhaps it would be helpful if you went to a garage and had this checked. Could you give more details about your vehicle, such as the mileage or whether it has been repaired recently? It might help to better understand your problem.

Hey, thanks for your answer! My GLE currently has 113466 km on the clock. I had the last service done about half a year ago and no major problems were found. Do you have anyone you could recommend to check it out? There are a lot of garages in my area and it would be nice to have one that is familiar with such a specific problem. I hope this info helps you. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, happy to help! The Mercedes-Benz dealership in my town did a good job with my E-Class. But every case is different, you never know. At 113,466 km, it could of course also be signs of wear. Since you're running on gasoline, a defective turbocharger might also be a possible cause of the symptoms. This often causes black smoke and loss of power. The same applies to a defective fuel pressure sensor, as you have already suspected. Don't worry, a good workshop will find out. In any case, it would be interesting to know what was ultimately the cause. Good luck!

Hey, great, thank you so much for your help! I'll give a Mercedes-Benz dealership near me a call and make an appointment. A faulty turbocharger sounds serious, but I hope it's nothing too bad. As soon as I have news, I'll share it here. Maybe it will help someone else who has the same problem. Thanks again for your time and tips!
