Black smoke and loss of power in 2011 Renault Clio Diesel - suspected contaminated diesel particulate filter

Hi guys, My 2011 Renault Clio Diesel with around 98337 km is causing me a bit of concern. On the highway it smokes black when accelerating and smells like exhaust fumes. I've also noticed that it's losing power and the engine light is on. Apparently there is also a problem with the DPF regeneration. Have any of you had anything similar and what did your mechanic say? I had trouble with mine last time. I suspect that the diesel particulate filter is heavily loaded. I would appreciate your suggestions!

Hi, Had a similar situation with my 2014 Renault Megane. Smoke, stench, lost power, engine light on - the whole nine yards. After a thorough investigation, it was found that the DPF (diesel particulate filter) was damaged on the inside. This was not an easy case, because the inner workings of the DPF were defective, and not just a problem with the regeneration. So it sounds like the same problem is occurring in your Clio. It's definitely a serious problem as it can affect driving safety and even lead to engine damage. On my Megane they had to change the DPF completely because it couldn't be repaired. Hope that helps you. It's always important not to take this lightly and to take it to the garage as soon as possible.

Hey, thanks for the info! That really sounds like my bad luck. Do you happen to remember how much you paid to have the DPF replaced? Have you had any other problems since then, or was the car fit again afterwards? I would be happy to hear your feedback.

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for, to help each other. I had to fork out €1550 for the complete repair, i.e. the replacement of the defective DPF. It wasn't exactly a bargain, but since then my Megane has been running like clockwork again. The heavy loading of the diesel particulate filter has been a thing of the past since the workshop visit. I hope that makes things a little easier for you. But better safe than sorry, so you'd better get your Clio checked.

Wow, that's not exactly cheap, but safety first of course. I'm tired of putting up with the black smoke and the stench. I'm going to take your advice and take the Clio to the garage. It sounds like a new DPF is unavoidable. Hopefully my mechanic can sort it out quickly. Thanks again for your help and advice!
