Black smoke and loss of power in 2006 VW Caddy: Possible causes and solutions

Hello, repair professionals! My 2006 VW Caddy Diesel with 227129 km on the clock is causing me some concern. Recently, when accelerating, there was black smoke from the exhaust, the engine runs unevenly, jerks when accelerating and it no longer pulls properly. The check engine light is also constantly on. Every now and then there is a loud hissing noise when accelerating, it stalls when idling, vibrates and there is a whistling noise. I suspect it could be the boost pressure regulator. Does anyone have experience with similar problems? How was it with your mechanic? Thanks for your help!

Hey, I had similar problems with my 2009 VW Passat. The last time I was at the garage, they had to run extensive diagnostics on my car. Several faults came to light, clustered around the intake tract and the turbocharger itself, which could explain the black smoke. This also included the defective boost pressure regulator and some minor defects that match the symptoms you described, such as the jerky engine running and this whistling when accelerating. Unfortunately, the mechanic said it was a serious problem and I had to wait a while for the repair. Hope this helps you!

Hey, thanks for your feedback! Seems like our Caddy has the same quirks as your Passat back then. Do you remember how much you had to fork out for the whole repair? And has your car had any further problems since the repair or did everything go smoothly afterwards? I would be delighted to hear your answer!

Hey, after my visit to the workshop, the malfunction of the boost pressure regulator in my car was fixed and everything has been running smoothly ever since. The mechanical damage to the turbocharger was a bit more expensive though, I had to fork out €1070. But hey, since then my Passat has been like a new car, so the repair was definitely worth it. If you have similar problems, I would definitely recommend having it checked. It really helped me and although the price was a bit hefty, it was definitely worth it! Hope this helps you!

Hey, €1070 is quite a lot of money, but if it helps the car to run like clockwork again, then I probably won't be able to avoid it. I'll take my Caddy to the garage and have it checked. Hopefully I'll be as lucky as you and my car will run smoothly again after the repair. Thank you very much for your help and advice!

Hello, I can't find what the turbocharger boost pressure control position sensor is! Is it the boost pressure sensor or at the turbo level? Thank you

The turbocharger boost pressure control position sensor is typically located at the turbocharger level. It monitors the position of the turbocharger's wastegate or variable geometry mechanism to ensure proper boost pressure control. If you're having trouble locating it, check near the turbocharger assembly for any sensors or wiring connected to it. If you need further assistance, feel free to ask!
