Hi folks, I've recently started having a few problems with my 2005 Opel Meriva with 77595km mileage and a petrol engine. When accelerating, black smoke comes out of the exhaust, the indicator light for the engine flashes constantly, the performance decreases and the engine runs totally erratically. Sometimes the engine just stops and starts during the jerks function. I have also noticed that the fuel consumption is quite high and that it occasionally stalls and vibrates a lot when idling. I'm afraid that the defect could be in the mass air flow sensor, but after my last experience with the garage I'm rather skeptical. Have any of you been through something similar before and can tell me what experiences you've had with garages, especially with a problem like this? Thanks a bunch!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2008 Opel Astra. It turned out that the damage in the wiring harness was the reason for the whole thing. It was indeed quite a serious problem as it affected the whole operation of the vehicle. At the workshop, the fault had to be detected, the damaged cable identified and then repaired or replaced. It was a bit difficult to find the exact location of the fault in the wiring harness, but eventually the mechanic managed to do it. It was tricky because it's a lot of work to examine the cables, but after the repair my Astra ran perfectly again. In my experience, you shouldn't leave a problem like this for too long, otherwise it will only get worse. I hope this helps you. Yours sincerely.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! It's reassuring to hear that your Opel Astra had the same problem and that it could be solved. Stupid question maybe, but do you happen to remember what you had to pay for the repair back then? And have there been any further problems since then or has everything gone smoothly? Thank you in advance for your help. Regards.

Hey, no problem! It cost me €95 to repair the damage to the wiring harness. I know that sounds like a lot at first, but since the repair was done, my Opel Astra has been running like clockwork again, so it was definitely worth it. And no, no further problems have occurred since then. By the way, regarding your suspicion about the defect in the mass air flow sensor: at the time, during the inspection in the workshop, a problem was actually also found with the mass air flow sensor. However, this has been completely resolved since the workshop visit and my car has been running perfectly ever since. I hope this helps you. All the best with your Meriva! Best regards.

Hey, wow, that doesn't sound too bad. When I heard about the engine problem, I thought it would cost me a fortune to fix it. But €95 - that's well within the realms of possibility. Your experiences really put my mind at ease a bit. I will go to my regular garage and tell them about your experience, maybe they can solve the problem in a similar way. Thanks again for your advice and support! Regards.
