Hey, sure, the problem with the engine control unit cost me €1000 back then. It was a real chunk of change, but since then the car has been running like clockwork. Once the mechanic was on it, we had the defect in the lambda sensor heater under control. So far, nothing else has occurred in connection with it. Everything runs smoothly and quietly, the smoke and jerking are gone and consumption is also back to normal. Hope that helps you a little. Good luck with your Beetle!

Hello, thank you for the information. It does sound like a high price, but if it fixes the problem, it's worth the cost. It's good to hear that everything has been running smoothly for you since then. I will now make an appointment with the garage and tell them to check the engine control unit. Thanks again for your advice. Happy driving!

Hello, I had similar problems with my 2010 VW Beetle. In my case, it was actually the engine control unit that was defective. Symptoms were similar to yours: black smoke, check engine light was on, rough running engine, increased fuel consumption and jerking when accelerating. At first I also thought it might be the lambda sensor heater, but it was checked in the workshop and was OK. After the diagnosis, they replaced the defective engine control unit with a new one and registered the new control unit to my car's system. I have to say, after this was done, my car felt almost like new. The engine ran smoothly again and the jerking when accelerating was also gone. The check engine light also went out and the smoke was gone. It was a serious problem, but luckily it could be fixed. I hope this helps you. Have a good ride!
