Black smoke and failed DPF regeneration on a 2013 Renault Latitude Diesel

Hey guys, I'm pretty worried here about my 2013 Renault Latitude Diesel (108982 km mileage). Recently it's been blowing out black smoke when accelerating, the indicator light is on and it's not pulling properly. In addition, the DPF regeneration is failing, the exhaust is extremely smelly and loud. I assume it could be due to the diesel particulate filter residual mileage. Has anyone ever had similar problems and could give me a tip on what to expect from the repair? My last experience at the mechanic was not the best... Thanks in advance and best regards!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2016 Renault Talisman Diesel. Black smoke, sluggish acceleration - something was wrong. After my mechanic read out the error, it turned out that the diesel particulate filter (DPF) was internally defective. The "DPF internally defective" message means that the filter is heavily contaminated or damaged and is no longer working properly - i.e. it can no longer filter enough particles. This results in unburned fuel and particles coming out of the exhaust - hence the black smoke and the stench. This is definitely a serious problem because the engine performance suffers and the car should no longer be driven. In my car, the DPF had to be completely replaced as cleaning was no longer possible. Depending on the degree of contamination or damage, a repair could therefore require the filter to be replaced. But don't worry, it can be done quickly by a good mechanic and your car should run perfectly again afterwards. Best regards!

Hey, your post is my salvation! Then that seems to be exactly what's plaguing my Latitude! Do you happen to remember how much you paid to replace the DPF? And have there been any other problems since then, or has your Talisman been running reliably again? I hope it goes just as smoothly for me. Thank you and let's hear from you! Greetings!

Hey, I'm glad I could help you! Well, replacing the diesel particulate filter in my Talisman cost me €1550 at the time. It's important to know that the cost can vary greatly depending on the make of your car and the amount of work involved. Even if it hurts at first, it was worth it, since then the car has really been running like clockwork again. I haven't had any more problems since then. The 'diesel particulate filter low mileage' issue was completely resolved as soon as the mechanic finished. Annoying noises and smells are a thing of the past. So, keep your chin up, the Latitude will thank you! Give us an update on how it went. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the detailed answer and the cost breakdown. The €1550 is a bitter pill to swallow, but if the car runs again afterwards, it's probably worth it. Maybe I've just had bad luck with my mechanics so far... Your words give me courage, thanks to you I now feel prepared for the upcoming workshop visit. As soon as the Latitude is running smoothly again, I'll report back here with an update. Best regards!
