Stalling while idling

Hello folks! I'm having a few problems with my 2022 Renault Talisman petrol engine (just over 54,000 km). Black smoke when accelerating, engine light is on, engine power fluctuates jerkily and it starts badly. My fuel consumption is also high and it just stalls or jerks when idling. I think it might have something to do with the ignition coil or misfiring? Have any of you had similar problems and could tell me about your experience with the mechanic? I wasn't really happy with my last one and want to know what to look out for on the next one. Thanks in advance!

Hey, understand your situation. Listen, my experience might be helpful. I am also a Renault owner, I have a 2019 Renault Mégane Diesel. I had a similar situation once when my engine control unit was faulty. It was quite serious, but not incurable. I had been getting the same black smoke and the engine light flickering, as well as similar symptoms. After I took it to the garage, it turned out that the engine control unit wasn't working properly. The repair work was quite extensive, they managed to replace the ECU completely. Although it was a big shock, replacing the engine control unit was the only solution. Fuel consumption improved, the engine ran stable again, no more black smoke and no more jerking at idle. To be honest, next time you visit the garage I would suggest you point them straight to the engine control unit. It could actually be the problem. Hope that helps you!

Hey thanks for your help! Glad to hear your car is running well again. Wouldn't have thought of the engine control unit straight away. I hope it's not that serious for me. Can you remember how expensive the repair was for you? And have there been any other problems since then? I can't wait to see what comes out of my Renault Talisman. Learned something again today, thank you!

No problem, always happy to help! The repair cost me around €1000 at the time. It was a bit expensive, but no further major problems since then. I did have to have the problem with the ignition coil and misfiring fixed later though. Good news there - that was fixed after I went to see a mechanic. All in all, my Renault is now running perfectly again. I hope that with your Talisman the problem doesn't get too serious. But be prepared that it could potentially be just as costly. Don't forget to tell us how it went!

Oh man, €1000 sounds steep. But of course, the main thing is that the car runs again afterwards and you don't have to go there again. That's good to know about the ignition coil and the misfiring, I'll definitely let the mechanic know and hope he can take it into account. Well, let's see what comes of it. I'll let you know as soon as I have any news. Thanks again for your advice and your time, it really helped me! See you then!
