Hey, I'm glad my information is helpful! Well, I spent about €1550 on replacing the DPF. It was quite a chunk, but since then my Astra hasn't had any more problems. The heavy loading of the diesel particulate filter was no longer an issue after the visit to the mechanic. So I didn't spend the money in vain - the car has been running really smoothly ever since. Hope that helps you a little. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the detailed information! It sounds expensive, but your experience gives me hope that it might be worth it. Especially if it solves the problem for good and I don't have to keep driving to the garage. I will take my Vectra to a professional and hopefully it won't be too dramatic. Your input was really helpful, thanks again! Best wishes and smooth sailing for your Astra!

Hey, sounds a lot like a problem with the DPF. I had similar symptoms with my 2000 Opel Astra. Black smoke, rough running, strong exhaust smell - the whole nine yards. After much speculation and a few headaches, it turned out that the DPF was defective on the inside. No small fault, I have to say. I usually take my car to the garage because I'm not much of a handyman. The guys there found the fault quite quickly and fixed it. They had to replace the DPF completely, as it was no longer possible to repair it. After that, my car ran like a champ again, without any smoke or smell. It won't always be the worst case, but if you have symptoms like this, I would have a specialist look at it to be on the safe side. As you know, it's better to have one too many than one too few. I hope I have helped you a little. Best regards!
