Battery Issues? CrosslandX Owner Needs Urgent Help!

Dim or flickering lights

|

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey everyone, my 2022 Vauxhall CrosslandX (petrol) has been acting up lately. The lights are dimming/flickering and I'm getting weak starts in the morning. I suspect it might be the battery sensor giving false readings, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their CrosslandX? Would love to know what your mechanic diagnosed and how they fixed it. Any info on repair costs would be helpful too. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2020 Vauxhall Mokka last year. Those symptoms sound exactly like what I dealt with, especially the flickering lights and rough morning starts. My local workshop diagnosed it as a faulty battery sensor microprocessor. The whole repair, including parts and labor, cost me about 315€. The mechanic told me this issue actually pops up occasionally in several Vauxhall models. Can you share more details about your car, like the mileage and whether you've had any other electrical issues before? This might help narrow things down, though it really sounds like the same problem I had. Quick fix once diagnosed, took about 2 hours at the shop. Haven't had any issues since then. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is at 155,348 km, and I just got it serviced last month. The car's been running great until these symptoms started showing up about a week ago. Actually, now that you mention it, I did notice my power windows were a bit sluggish right before the flickering started. Really good to know about the battery sensor microprocessor, I'll definitely mention this when I take it to the shop. That repair cost doesn't sound too bad either. Did your mechanic mention if there's any way to prevent this from happening again?

Hey again! Glad I could help earlier. Yeah, about preventing it, my mechanic actually did mention a few things about this when I went back for my regular service. With my Mokka (which hit 160,000 km recently), he said these sensors can act up if they get exposed to too much heat or vibration over time. He recommended keeping an eye on the battery terminals and making sure they stay clean and tight, apparently, corrosion around there can mess with the sensor readings. Also suggested avoiding those quick car washes that spray underneath, as water exposure can sometimes affect the sensor's connections. Funny enough, my power windows did the same sluggish thing! It's like these Vauxhalls have a specific way of telling us "hey, something's up with the electrical system!". Since getting it fixed, I've been more careful about not leaving electronics running when the engine's off, and I get the battery checked during each service. No issues in the past year, so I guess those tips helped! Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out, curious if your CrosslandX has the same exact issue my Mokka had. These Vauxhalls can be pretty similar when it comes to electrical quirks!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! It's super helpful to know about keeping the battery terminals clean and avoiding those underbody car washes, I definitely wouldn't have thought about that. I've actually booked an appointment with my local Vauxhall specialist for tomorrow morning, and I'll make sure to mention everything we've discussed, especially about the battery sensor microprocessor. And yeah, it's pretty wild how our cars showed the same symptoms with the power windows! These Vauxhalls really do seem to have their own way of communicating problems. I'll definitely take your advice about not leaving electronics running when the engine's off, I'm probably guilty of doing that while waiting in the car sometimes. I'll update you once I get the diagnosis. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and all those prevention tips. It's made me feel a lot more confident about handling this issue!
