Bad Idle + Fuel Issues? Check Your Throttle Body Now

Poor start + high fuel usage, Throttle valve issue? Having trouble with my 2011 Chevy Enjoy diesel (35k km). Engine idle is rough and the car's become really thirsty with fuel lately. Takes multiple attempts to start, especially when cold. Throttle position seems off and engine response isn't what it used to be. Had a not-so-great experience at my last mechanic visit, so looking for second opinions before going back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Think it might be the throttle body or throttle valve acting up. What was your repair experience and cost like?

I faced nearly identical issues with my 2014 Chevy Cruze diesel. The symptoms perfectly match what you're describing, poor fuel efficiency, rough idle, and hesitation during cold starts. After thorough diagnostics, it turned out the throttle body needed cleaning and recalibration. The throttle position sensor was giving false readings due to carbon buildup, affecting the air intake and fuel mixture. The mechanic also found the accelerator pedal module was failing, which explained the inconsistent throttle response. The repair involved: Throttle cleaning service, Replacing accelerator pedal module, Electronic throttle recalibration, Cleaning mass airflow sensor This was a serious issue that needed immediate attention since it affects both engine performance and safety. Left untreated, it could lead to complete throttle failure or engine damage. The fix restored normal idle, improved fuel economy, and fixed the cold start issues completely. Recommend getting it checked soon, these symptoms typically don't improve on their own.

Thanks for sharing those details about the throttle body repair. My Enjoy had very similar symptoms and the control valve was definitely the culprit. The air intake system was completely gunked up too. My mechanic did a thorough clean of the throttle body and replaced the throttle position sensor. Engine idle is much smoother now and cold starts are back to normal. Car's been running great for about 6 months since the fix. Just curious, what did the total repair cost you? Also, have you noticed any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? I'm keeping an eye on my fuel consumption to make sure everything stays sorted.

Got great news, turns out the repair was totally worth it! After getting the throttle valve fixed and replacing that faulty accelerator pedal module, my Cruze has been running like a charm. Total bill came to 205€ for the module replacement, which honestly wasn't as bad as I expected. The engine throttle response is way better now, and I haven't had a single issue since the repair. Fuel consumption dropped back to normal levels too. The car throttle system seems completely sorted, no more rough starts or weird idle behavior. The air intake system is working perfectly after that thorough cleaning job they did. Really glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed, as catching these issues early probably prevented more expensive problems down the line. No other problems have shown up in the months since the repair. If you're monitoring your fuel consumption, you should see it stay consistently better than before the fix. Just keep an eye on the air intake and throttle cleaning schedule going forward, regular maintenance helps prevent these issues from coming back.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Just got back from the mechanic and wanted to share how it went. The control valve was definitely shot, just like you all suggested. Found a great mechanic who really knew what they were doing. They did a complete clean of the air intake system and replaced the throttle position sensor. Whole job took about 3 hours. Bill came to around 180 Euro for parts and labor, not cheap but definitely worth it for how much better the car's running now. Engine throttle response is back to normal and fuel efficiency has improved massively. No more rough starts in the morning either. The mechanic showed me all the gunk they cleaned out, pretty shocking how dirty these systems can get. Going to stick to regular maintenance from now on. The mechanic recommended cleaning the throttle body every 20k miles to prevent similar issues. Such a relief to have this sorted!
