Audi TT Keyless System Troubles: Antenna Fix Guide

Ignition cannot be switched on

Locking/Unlocking issue

Fault stored

Looking for help with my 2017 Audi TT keyless entry and start issues. The car stores error codes, remote locking stopped working, and I need to insert the key to start the engine, which defeats the keyless system purpose. I suspect the vehicle antenna in the front bumper might be faulty. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms and got them fixed? Particularly interested in repair outcomes and whether an antenna replacement solved the problem. Appreciate any insights on diagnostic steps or repair experiences.

As someone with some repair experience, I faced almost identical issues with my 2015 Audi TTS. The symptoms matched exactly, keyless entry failed and I had to use the physical key. Initially thought it was just a dead key fob battery, but after replacement, the problem persisted. The workshop diagnosed a faulty cable connection to the vehicle antenna in the front bumper area. The car radio and other systems worked fine, but the automotive antenna specifically for the keyless system had a damaged wire. The repair involved accessing and replacing the damaged connection, which restored full functionality to both the keyless entry and start systems. Total cost was 95 Euro for the repair, including labor. Before suggesting specific fixes, could you share: Any warning messages on the dashboard? Does the key fob work sometimes, or not at all? Have you noticed if the issues started after any bodywork or bumper repairs? Have you already tried replacing the key fob battery? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or might be something different.

Thanks for the feedback on my issue. My car is currently at 122117 KM and just had its annual service last month. The dashboard shows no warning messages, and the key fob completely stopped working about 2 weeks ago. The radio signal seems perfect, so I initially ruled out a general antenna problem. I have already changed the key fob battery but with no improvement. No recent bodywork has been done, though I did have the front bumper cleaned at a pressure wash station. The antenna mount area might have been affected by the high-pressure water, which could explain the timing of the issue. Worth noting that the fm antenna works perfectly for radio reception, so it seems isolated to the keyless entry system. I will check the connections around the automotive antenna area as suggested before booking a repair.

Based on your mention of the pressure washing, this definitely aligns with my experience. The high-pressure water likely compromised the antenna mount seal in the bumper area, similar to what happened with my TTS. The perfect radio reception doesnt rule out keyless system issues, since the vehicle antenna for keyless entry is separate from the radio antenna. When my system failed, the radio also worked flawlessly while the keyless functions were completely dead. After my repair technician inspected the system, we found water damage around the antenna connections in the bumper area. The antenna replacement was necessary because moisture had corroded the connection points. This matches your symptoms, especially since the issues started after exposure to high-pressure washing. A professional inspection of the antenna mount area would be wise. Look specifically for: Moisture around the antenna housing, Corroded connection points, Damaged wiring insulation, Loose antenna mount components The repair in my case involved complete antenna replacement rather than just fixing connections, as water damage had affected multiple components. While the 95 Euro cost I mentioned earlier was just for diagnosis and connection repair, the full antenna replacement ended up being necessary later.

I really appreciate this detailed response. The info about water damage affecting the antenna mount makes perfect sense given my pressure washing situation. Since my symptoms match your experience so closely, I will have my mechanic focus on inspecting the automotive antenna system and its connections first. The separate fm antenna versus keyless entry antenna explanation helps clarify why my radio works perfectly while the keyless system is completely dead. Given the signal interference started right after the pressure washing, moisture damage seems the most likely culprit. I will schedule an inspection focusing on the antenna repair aspects you mentioned, particularly checking for water intrusion and corrosion around the connection points. Having a ballpark cost estimate is also very helpful for budgeting the potential repair. Good to know a full antenna replacement might be needed rather than just fixing connections if water damage is extensive. Thanks for sharing your repair experience, it has given me a clear direction for diagnosing and fixing this frustrating issue.
