Audi TT Cabrio engine control light comes on

Poor fuel economy

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2012 Audi TT gasoline engine. It has been exhibiting some strange issues such as black smoke when accelerating, check engine light on, loss of power, rough engine, jerking when accelerating and high fuel consumption. I suspect that there may be a defect in the lambda sensor heater. Have any of you ever experienced similar symptoms in your car and perhaps have any tips on how you resolved them in the workshop? I would be very pleased to hear about your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I had similar problems with my 2010 Audi A3 gasoline engine. I'm really not an expert mechanic, but I can tell you what happened. I took it to my garage first, but they couldn't find anything wrong. It just kept on clicking and sucking like a hole. Then I went to another garage and they found out that the engine control unit was faulty. Unfortunately it cost a bit of money, 1000 euros to be precise, but since then it has been running like clockwork again. Of course, I don't know if it's the same problem with your TT, but it was the same with mine. If you give me more details, for example the exact engine code and any error codes, I can have a look at my workshop notes to see if I can help you. I hope that helps you.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. My car is at 112567 km. Everything was fine at the last service, but now it's going downhill. It seems that my TT is a completely different beast. I've also thought about the engine control unit, but to say it's an expensive repair would be an understatement. Oh well, I'll probably go to another garage and get a second opinion. Unfortunately I don't have the exact codes to hand, but I'll let you know as soon as I have more information. Thank you very much for your help, that was really kind of you.

Hey, no problem, I'll be happy to help you with that. It can be really annoying when the car gets really nasty. It really sounds like you have something similar going on to my A3. An engine control unit fault can be really expensive, I know. But it also sounds to me like it could well be something else - I'd definitely get a second opinion if you can. Maybe try a specialized Audi workshop? They might have more experience with your model. I hope you get the problem under control quickly. It's really annoying when you see the car more in the workshop than on the road. If you have the exact error codes, please let me know. Maybe I can then help you better, as I had a similar case. Until then, cheer up and good luck.

Hi, that does sound like a lot of trouble, but it helps to hear that someone else has been through it too. I think a specialist Audi garage is definitely the next step for me. It's just so frustrating when you have to rely on your car and then it makes such a fuss. As soon as I get the fault codes, I'll send them to you. Hopefully I can get this sorted soon. Thanks again for your support, it really means a lot to me. Have a great day and see you soon!

It sounds like you're still experiencing issues even after changing the lambda probe. I would suggest checking the fuel injectors and the fuel pump. These components, if faulty, can cause a lack of power. Also, ensure that the new lambda sensor is correctly installed and functioning properly. Please update us on your progress. Do you have any further questions?
