Thanks for sharing your experience. I went through something similar with my S5 last winter. The blower motor completely died and the electrical wiring needed replacement due to corrosion. The air conditioning system was totally unresponsive too. My mechanic found a clogged drain was the root cause, just like in your case. Going with OEM parts was expensive but worth it to prevent future issues with the climate control system. Do you remember roughly what you paid for the complete repair? Also curious if youve had any cabin fan problems since getting it fixed?

Since getting my A5 fixed by a certified shop, the fresh air blower has worked flawlessly. The total repair came to 365 Euro, which covered replacing the defective blower motor and addressing the corroded electrical wiring. The price was worth it considering the complexity of accessing the HVAC system components. The climate control now functions perfectly, with proper air flow throughout all fan speeds. Its been over a year without any issues. Having a competent mechanic who properly diagnosed and fixed the root cause, including clearing the blocked drainage, prevented any repeat problems with the heater fan system. If youre experiencing similar symptoms, getting it checked early can prevent additional damage to the electrical components. A non-functioning cabin fan really impacts driving comfort and safety, so proper repair with quality parts is essential.

Thanks for the input. Finally took my S5 to a new certified mechanic last week. The fan speed controller and blower motor both needed replacement. Found significant water damage from a clogged drain, exactly as mentioned. Total repair came to 420 Euro plus labor. The HVAC system now works perfectly, all fan speeds respond and the air flow is strong again. The climate control maintains temperature properly too. Definitely worth fixing properly rather than trying cheaper alternatives. The mechanic cleaned out the drainage system and showed me where to check for future clogs. No more issues with the cabin fan since the repair. Really glad I got a second opinion instead of going back to my old mechanic who wanted to replace the entire climate control unit.

Having experienced this exact issue on my 2011 Audi A5 2.0T, I can share what was discovered. The cabin fan stopped working completely, leaving the HVAC system non-functional. The error code indicated a blower motor failure, but the real problem was more complex. Initial diagnosis pointed to the blower motor resistor, but after testing, both the motor and the climate control module were failing. The blower motor had seized due to water damage from a clogged drainage system, which is a known weak point. This moisture also affected the electrical connections. This turned into a serious repair requiring: Complete blower motor replacement, New resistor pack installation, Cleaning of the drainage channels, Replacement of corroded wiring connectors The job took about 4 hours at the shop, as accessing the blower motor required removing several dashboard components. Without proper air circulation, the windows would fog up constantly, making the car unsafe to drive in certain weather conditions. Would strongly recommend having a certified technician diagnose this, as DIY repairs can lead to damaged climate control modules if not done correctly.
