Audi S3 Fuel Sensor Causes Random Engine Stalls

Check engine light on

|

Stalling while idling

Fault stored

Looking for help with my 2015 Audi S3 (100657km, gasoline). The engine keeps stalling at idle and check engine light stays on. Error codes suggest a fuel level sensor fault. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their S3? Particularly interested in knowing the typical repair costs and if its worth getting a second opinion since my last mechanic experience wasnt great. The problems with the fuel system are getting worse and Im not sure if its actually the sensor or something else in the fuel tank causing these issues.

Having faced a similar situation with my 2012 Audi RS4, I can relate to these fuel system issues. The symptoms match what I encountered, engine stalling at idle and a persistent check engine light on the car dashboard. In my case, the fuel gauge readings were inconsistent, jumping between levels out of nowhere. The initial diagnosis pointed to a fuel level sensor fault, but further inspection revealed a more complex issue within the fuel tank assembly. The actual problem involved a failing fuel pump module that housed the sensor. When the fuel system starts failing this way, its typically not just the sensor but the entire assembly requiring attention. This is considered a serious repair as it affects engine performance and can lead to complete failure if left unattended. Getting a second opinion is advisable since misdiagnosis is common with fuel system issues. The repair requires dropping the fuel tank and replacing multiple components. Its not a simple sensor swap, the entire fuel delivery system needs inspection. Watch for these additional symptoms: Inconsistent fuel gauge readings, Rough idle beyond the stalling, Difficulty starting after refueling, Unusual fuel consumption patterns Considering the mileage on your S3 and the common failure points in these models, a thorough diagnostic of the complete fuel system would be sensible.

Thanks for such a detailed explanation of the fuel system issues. Your description matches my symptoms exactly, especially the inconsistent fuel gauge readings and rough idle. Just got my car back from the shop after dealing with this car sensor problem. They also had to replace the entire fuel pump assembly rather than just the sensor. Were you able to remember how much the repair ended up costing? Also curious if youve had any related issues pop up since the fix? Mine is running better now but still monitoring it closely for any signs of fuel system problems returning.

Good news since my last post about the fuel system troubles. After the full repair, my car has been running perfectly with no recurring fuel sensor fault issues. The fuel gauge now shows accurate readings, and those frustrating stalling problems are completely resolved. The total repair costs for my car sensor issue came to 52 Euro for a faulty fuse replacement, plus labor charges for diagnosing the fuel level sensor fault. Its significantly cheaper than what I initially feared when the fuel tank problems first appeared. Been running smoothly for over 8 months now without any car electronics problems or fuel system concerns. Key is finding a mechanic who properly diagnoses the root cause rather than just replacing parts. The comprehensive inspection of the fuel delivery system was worth every cent. My advice would be to keep monitoring your fuel gauge readings for the next few weeks, but if the repair was done correctly, you shouldnt see any return of the previous symptoms.

After hearing everyones input about similar fuel system issues, I wanted to share an update on my Audi S3 situation. Finally got the car back from a new mechanic who actually knew what they were doing. The initial diagnosis of a simple car sensor fault was only part of the story. Turns out I needed the entire fuel pump module replaced, which explained all those inconsistent readings and stalling problems. The repair bill came to 780 Euro including parts and labor. While not cheap, its actually less than I expected given how serious the fuel tank issues had become. The mechanic did a thorough inspection of the whole fuel system and found some minor wiring issues they fixed while they were in there. Been driving for about two weeks now and the car runs like new, no more stalling, accurate fuel gauge, and the check engine light has stayed off. Really glad I got that second opinion instead of going with the first shops quick fix suggestion. Sometimes paying a bit more for proper diagnosis saves money in the long run. Will keep monitoring things but feeling much more confident about the repair this time around.
