Audi RS6 Parking Heater Malfunction Fix Guide

Looking for advice on my 2020 RS6 auxiliary heater issue. The parking heater wont activate and throws an error code. Has anyone experienced something similar and had it fixed? Particularly interested in understanding if this relates to the entire ventilation system or just the auxiliary heater unit itself. Want to be prepared before taking it to a workshop, what should I expect in terms of repairs and common failure points? The main car heater works fine during driving, its just the parking heat function thats giving me trouble.

Had a similar issue on my 2018 RS4 last winter. Have some experience with car repairs, mainly basic maintenance and troubleshooting. The symptoms match what I encountered, main car heater working fine but auxiliary heating system failing. My blower motor and heater core were working correctly, but the climate control system showed error codes related to the glow plug. The ventilation system itself was functioning normally. Took it to a workshop after attempting basic diagnostics. They confirmed the glow plug was defective and needed replacement. Total repair cost was 440 Euro, including parts and labor. The fix resolved all heating issues completely. To provide more specific advice for your case, could you share: What error code is displayed? Does the system make any sounds when attempting to activate? Have you noticed any fuel consumption changes? When did the issue first appear? This information would help determine if your issue is identical to what I experienced or if other components of the climate control system might be involved.

Last service was at 25000 KM. My temperature sensor shows normal readings and the main car heater works as expected when driving. The error code displayed is P2463, and the system is completely silent when trying to activate it. No changes in fuel consumption noticed. The issue started about 2 weeks ago when outdoor temperatures dropped. The ventilation system and blower motor both function normally during regular operation. Thanks for sharing your experience, its helpful to know that a glow plug replacement solved a similar issue. Will look into getting this diagnosed properly.

Thanks for providing those details. Based on the error code P2463 and your description, your issue seems different from what I experienced with my RS4. While both problems affect the auxiliary heating system, yours appears more related to the particulate filter system than the glow plug that was faulty in my case. The normal readings from your temperature sensor and functioning blower motor suggest the main climate control system is intact. However, the P2463 code typically indicates a DPF-related problem that can affect the auxiliary heater operation. Since your main heater works fine during driving, and the issue started with colder weather, its worth checking: Fuel quality and level, DPF condition, Auxiliary heater electrical connections My repair was straightforward with the glow plug replacement, but your case might need a different approach. Given the error code, expect the workshop to focus on the DPF system first. Repair costs could range from 400 Euro to 1200 Euro depending on whether the DPF needs cleaning or replacement. Would recommend getting it checked soon, as continued operation with DPF issues could lead to more extensive problems with the heating system components.

Thanks for that detailed explanation. The DPF connection makes sense given the P2463 code, definitely a different issue than your glow plug problem. My auxiliary heater started acting up right when temperatures dropped, which now seems like it could be more than just coincidence. The fact that my main car heater and climate control system work perfectly during normal driving but the parking heater fails does line up with what you described about the DPF connection. Good to know about the possible repair cost range. Will schedule a workshop visit next week to get the DPF checked out. I noticed the ventilation system seems slightly less powerful lately too, even though the temperature readings are normal, so maybe theres a connection there. Ill make sure to mention this to the technician along with the error code. Really hoping its just a DPF cleaning needed rather than a full replacement, but at least I know what to expect now. Thanks for helping me narrow down the likely causes.
