Audi RS5 Hood Safety System Triggers with Airbag Alert

Since my last repair, my 2012 Audi RS5 (177204 KM) displays an Active hood fault warning along with an illuminated airbag light. The car also registered a system fault in its memory, and I noticed the hood latch actuators were triggered. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their car safety systems? Looking for recommendations on how to handle this, as Im hesitant to return to my previous mechanic. The car runs fine otherwise, but these warnings are concerning.

Had the same issue on my 2015 Audi RS7. The hood latch sensor and impact sensor system required attention after similar warning messages appeared. The active hood safety system connects to multiple sensors and the airbag control module. During diagnosis, we found the hood latch actuators had deployed due to a faulty acceleration sensor sending incorrect signals to the safety system. This triggered both the airbag light and hood system warnings. The main control unit stored these system fault codes permanently until properly reset. The repair involved: Replacing the defective acceleration sensor, Resetting the active hood latch mechanism, Clearing fault codes from the safety system, Recalibrating the impact sensor system This was a serious safety concern requiring immediate attention, as the active hood system protects pedestrians in case of an accident. The faulty sensor could prevent proper deployment in an emergency. Would strongly recommend having a certified technician diagnose the exact fault codes. These car sensor issues often indicate deeper electronic problems that need proper diagnostic equipment to resolve.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had those exact symptoms on my RS5 last summer, the active hood fault warning with airbag light. Really helped knowing what parts needed attention. Quick question, do you remember roughly what you paid for the full repair? My hood latch and collision detection system needs fixing soon and Im trying to budget for it. Also, has everything worked properly since the repair or have you noticed any other sensor issues popping up?

Can confirm the repair costs came to 315 Euro for the entire job. The acceleration sensor replacement fixed the active hood fault completely. The car electronics have been working flawlessly since then with no recurring crash detection warnings or sensor issues. The mechanic did a thorough check of all related car safety systems during the repair. They verified the hood latch mechanism was properly reset and the pedestrian safety features were fully functional. Worth every cent for the peace of mind knowing these critical safety systems are working correctly. The crash detection system and all associated sensors have performed perfectly for the past 6 months. No warning lights or fault codes have returned. Would definitely recommend getting it fixed soon to ensure all safety features are operational.

Thanks for your feedback. After dealing with those warning lights for weeks, I finally took your advice and got it fixed. Found a certified Audi shop that specializes in safety system diagnostics. The repair went exactly as you described. They found a faulty acceleration sensor that was triggering the car sensor warnings. The mechanic replaced it, reset the hood latch, and cleared all system fault codes. Total bill came to 340 Euro, pretty close to what you paid. The best part, all warning lights are now off and the pedestrian safety systems are working perfectly. No more active hood fault messages or airbag lights. Really glad I got it sorted instead of letting it drag on. The crash detection system is now functioning as it should. Definitely the right call to fix it properly rather than trying cheaper alternatives. These safety systems are too important to ignore.
