Uneven Ride Height

I have a 2009 Audi Q7 with 82427km on the clock, and lately the suspension has been acting up. The automotive suspension seems totally off, front sits lower than rear, and the ride is unusually harsh. The low beams are pointing all over the place, plus there is a warning light on the dash. Had it scanned and it shows some error codes related to the leveling system. Anyone else experienced similar issues with their Q7? Starting to think the control module or leveling sensor might be failing. Looking for advice before heading back to a shop since my last mechanic experience wasnt great. Has anyone dealt with this and what was the fix?

Had the same leveling system problem on my 2012 Audi S6. The symptoms match exactly what you describe, uneven ride height and misaligned headlights. The air suspension warning light came on and diagnostic scan revealed faulty signals from the leveling sensor. The root cause was a failed control rod connection to the level sensor. The sensor itself was working, but the mechanical linkage had worn out, causing incorrect height measurements. This made the air suspension system receive wrong readings, leading to improper ride height adjustments. This is a fairly serious issue that needs prompt attention, as it affects both driving safety and vehicle stability. The faulty readings can cause excessive wear on suspension components if left unchecked. The repair involved replacing the complete leveling sensor assembly, including the control rod and mounting brackets. After installation, the system required recalibration using proper diagnostic equipment to reset the suspension control module. If you have these symptoms, particularly the uneven ride height and headlight misalignment, getting it checked by an specialist who understands the air suspension system would be advisable. The load sensor readings are critical for proper suspension function in these models.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had very similar issues with my Q7 last year, the ride height was completely off and the control module kept throwing errors. In my case, it turned out the height sensor on the rear axle was damaged, causing the air suspension to malfunction. After replacing the sensor and recalibrating the system, everything went back to normal. Would you mind sharing what the repair ended up costing you? And have you had any suspension issues since the fix? Just want to make sure its not a recurring problem that might come back to haunt me later.

I got the repair done and everything is running perfectly now. The Height control restricted warning disappeared completely after they fixed the control rod connection to the leveling sensor. Total cost was 110 Euro for parts and labor, which seems reasonable considering how critical the air suspension system is for proper vehicle operation. Since the repair three months ago, the ride height has stayed consistent and the headlights are properly aligned. The control module isnt throwing any more error codes, and the suspension response feels normal again. A properly functioning level sensor really makes a difference in how the car handles. The fix seems permanent, no recurring issues with the suspension system at all. Getting a competent shop that understands the air suspension components was key. Based on this experience, I would definitely recommend addressing any leveling sensor problems quickly to prevent additional wear on other suspension parts.

Thanks for the advice. Finally got my Q7 fixed last week. Took it to a different shop this time, one specializing in air suspension systems. The mechanic found the load sensor was completely shot and some wiring had corroded. They replaced the entire leveling sensor assembly and recalibrated the system. Total repair came to 430 Euro including parts and labor. More than I hoped but worth it, the ride height is perfect now and those annoying warning lights are gone. The suspension feels smoother than it has in months. Best part is how much better it handles. No more bottoming out on bumps or weird noises from the suspension. Even the headlights are properly aligned again. The mechanic explained that catching these issues early prevents damage to other expensive components. Only wish I had done this sooner instead of driving around with a faulty leveling system for weeks. Lesson learned about not putting off suspension repairs when warning signs first appear.
