Audi Q3 check engine light is on and black smoke is coming out of the exhaust

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

DPF regeneration failure

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Poor fuel economy

Hey guys, my 2016 Audi Q3 diesel (189654 km) is showing some problems: black smoke when accelerating, check engine light on, loss of power, rough engine running, DPF regeneration fails, poor fuel consumption. Could this be due to the exhaust back pressure sensor in the diesel particulate filter? Had a bad experience at the last workshop visit and am now unsure. Has anyone had similar problems and how was your workshop visit? Any tips? Thank you!

Hey, I had similar problems with my 2014 Audi Q5. It also started with a loss of power and black smoke. In my case, the diesel particulate filter (DPF) was heavily loaded and could no longer regenerate itself. My mechanic said at the time that this was a really serious problem. At the workshop, they cleaned the DPF and replaced the exhaust back pressure sensor. After that, the engine ran smoothly again and the check engine light went out. Hope that helps! Regards

Hey, thanks for your reply! Do you remember how much you paid for cleaning the DPF and replacing the exhaust back pressure sensor? Did you have to go back to the workshop afterwards because of similar or other problems? Best regards

Hey, no problem, happy to help! I can still remember that the bill for cleaning the DPF and replacing the exhaust back pressure sensor amounted to a total of €1325 for me. The DPF was heavily loaded and had to be cleaned thoroughly. Since the workshop visit, there has been no more problems with the DPF or the sensor. The car has been running smoothly again since then, with no loss of power. I hope it goes just as smoothly for you! Best regards

Hey guys, I really need to tell you how my visit to the garage went. So, after having all the problems with my Audi Q3, I decided to take it to the garage again - even though I had a really bad experience last time. Fortunately, this time I tried a different garage that was recommended to me by a friend. On arrival, everything seemed much more professional. The mechanic listened to my problem and immediately said that it could probably be the exhaust back pressure sensor and the DPF. After a thorough examination, he confirmed his suspicion: the diesel particulate filter was heavily loaded and could no longer clean itself. They then cleaned the DPF and replaced the exhaust back pressure sensor. The whole thing cost me a total of €1250 - a little less than I had actually expected, even if it still wasn't cheap. I've had the car back for a few days now and so far everything is running great. No more black smoke, the check engine light is off and the engine is running smoothly again. I hope it stays that way! Thanks again for the tips and the encouragement to take the plunge and change workshops. It was definitely worth it! Best regards!

Hello, It could be the exhaust back pressure sensor. I’ve had similar issues in the past with my diesel car. I would make sure your workshop checks the sensor and DPF thoroughly. Also, consider a second opinion if you had a bad experience last time. Good luck!
