Shaking while idling

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Stalling while idling

Poor fuel economy

Check engine light on

Car won't start

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2020 Audi Q2 (gasoline, 96543 km). My car shows the following symptoms: - Black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating - Check Engine light on - Power loss - Erratic engine running - Jerking when accelerating - Car won't start - Poor fuel economy - Engine stalls at idle - Shuddering at idle I suspect it could be due to defective ignition coils or misfiring. Has anyone had similar problems and what was your experience with the garage? Any help would be great! Thank you!

Hey, I had similar problems with my 2017 Audi A3. In my case, the engine control unit was defective. The symptoms were almost exactly the same as yours: black smoke, check engine light, loss of power and rough engine running. After the workshop visit, it turned out that the engine control unit had to be completely replaced. It was a serious matter, but after that the car ran perfectly again. I would definitely have it checked at the garage if you have similar symptoms. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the info. Do you remember how much you paid for the repair? And has anything similar come up again since then?

Hey, yes, I can still remember it well. After I went to the garage, they also detected a defective ignition coil or misfiring and fixed it. The engine control unit had to be replaced and the whole thing cost me €1000. Since then, my Audi has been running like new again and I've had no further problems. I can only advise you to have it checked quickly before it gets any worse. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the info! Sounds really expensive, but apparently necessary. I've now made a workshop appointment and hope that it's "just" the engine control unit. Let's see what they say and I hope I don't sweat too much financially. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Wish you all a safe journey and thanks again for your tips! Best regards,

Hello everyone, Have you also had your chain checked? I had the same problem with my A3 and the chain was elongated and had to be replaced. Greetings Daniel

Hello DeeKay! How can I tell if the timing chain has stretched? Can I see this with Carly from certain faults, or would you advise me to have it checked by a specialist?

Hello Racer, You could see this with Carly if certain errors are entered such as camshaft position implausible or if mixture errors are entered. If this is not the case, only a specialist can help you. Greetings Daniel
