Audi Q2 Engine Stalls: Faulty Coil Pack Warning Signs

Thanks for checking my case. My current mileage is 165695 KM, with the last full service done in January. The engine stalling occurs more frequently when warm, especially in stop-and-go traffic. The jerking is worse during light acceleration. I have not replaced the spark plugs yet. Based on the symptoms you described, it does sound similar to what I am experiencing with my ignition system. My check engine light started flashing before staying solid, which matches with a potential coil failure. Knowing your repair costs were reasonable gives me some peace of mind that this might not be too expensive to fix.

Thanks for providing those additional details. Given your mileage and the fact you havent replaced the spark plugs yet, your ignition system issues might be more extensive than my previous wiring problem. The flashing check engine light typically indicates a misfire condition, which combined with your symptoms strongly suggests either failing coil packs or worn spark plugs, possibly both. At 165k km, your spark plugs are likely well past their recommended replacement interval. In my case, after the initial wiring fix, I actually ended up replacing all spark plugs and one failing coil pack about 6 months later. The complete job including parts and labor came to 320 Euro. The repair took around 3 hours, and the improvement in performance was significant. Based on how your symptoms worsen with warm engine temps and light acceleration, I recommend having both the coil packs and spark plugs inspected. Replacing just the obviously failed parts might work short-term, but with your mileage, doing a complete ignition system service would be more cost-effective long-term. Would you like details about the specific parts I used for my ignition system upgrade? The performance improvement was worth the investment.

Thanks for the detailed info and your experience with a similar repair. That helps a lot with my decision. Since my car shows the same ignition system symptoms and the check engine light behavior matches what you described, I will book it in for a full diagnosis. My mechanic actually had a cancellation and can check it tomorrow. I will request they inspect both the coil packs and spark plugs given the mileage. The 320 Euro cost reference for a complete ignition system repair gives me a good baseline for what to expect. I will have them replace all spark plugs regardless of condition since they are original and well overdue. If they find failing coil packs, I might as well replace those at the same time to prevent future issues. Better to fix everything properly now than deal with repeated engine stalling and performance problems.

As someone with some experience working on Audis, I encountered nearly identical symptoms with my 2017 Audi Q3 2.0 TFSI. The check engine light came on, and I noticed the same issues, rough idling, engine stalling, and jerky acceleration. After vehicle diagnostics at my workshop, they found a loose connection in the wiring harness connected to one of the coil packs. The cable insulation had worn down, causing intermittent connection issues. They repaired the damaged wiring and secured the connection properly, which resolved all symptoms. Total repair cost was 95 Euro and took about 2 hours to complete. Before assuming its the same issue though, could you share: Current mileage on your Q2, When did you last replace the spark plugs, Does the engine stalling happen more frequently when the engine is cold or warm, Have you noticed any specific driving conditions that make it worse Getting this information would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced or if it might be something else. Its worth checking these details since coil pack problems can sometimes be confused with spark plug issues or fuel delivery problems.
