Audi A7 E-Brake Failure: Repair Cost Discussion

Looking for advice on my 2011 Audi A7 3.0 TFSI with 196500km. My electronic brake system seems faulty, the parking brake stopped working completely and theres a warning light on the dash. Already had a bad experience with my last mechanic visit, so Id appreciate hearing from others who dealt with similar electronic brake failures. Has anyone experienced this and knows if its typically an expensive repair? The car stores an error code but I havent had it read yet. Just want to know what Im potentially dealing with before heading to a shop.

After seeing similar brake failure symptoms in my 2014 Audi S6 4.0 TFSI, I can share relevant insights. The electronic parking brake issue turned out to be a defective brake calliper motor. This is a known weak point in these electronic brake systems. The main symptoms were identical, complete parking brake failure and warning lights. The brake control module stored error codes indicating a system glitch in the calliper motor circuit. A proper brake diagnostics session revealed the motor had seized, preventing proper brake engagement. This requires replacing the entire brake calliper assembly, as the electronic motor is integrated into the unit. The repair is considered major since it affects a critical safety system. The brake switch and associated wiring should also be inspected during repair, as they can contribute to similar symptoms. Getting the error codes read is essential before proceeding with repairs. Sometimes what appears as complete brake failure can be resolved through control module recalibration, though in my case the calliper motor needed replacement. Without error code information, shops may need additional diagnostic time to pinpoint whether its a mechanical or electronic issue in the brake system.

Thanks for sharing those details about your S6 brake repair. My A7 is showing the exact same parking brake fault symptoms you described. Got it fixed last month, also turned out to be the calliper motor causing the brake failure warnings. Did your repair costs end up being reasonable? My brake control module needed recalibration along with the new calliper assembly, and the brake sensor wiring had to be replaced. Just curious how your total bill compared and if youve had any recurring brake system issues since the fix.

Good to hear you got the parking brake fault resolved. The total repair for my S6 came to 505 Euro, which covered replacing the defective electric motor in the brake calliper. The vehicle safety inspection confirmed everything was working correctly after the fix. The brake diagnostics pointed directly to the calliper motor issue in my case, so I didnt need additional wiring or sensor work like you did. Your repair sounds more extensive with the brake control module recalibration and wiring replacement. Its been completely reliable since the repair, no warning lights or electronic parking brake problems in the past year. These brake system repairs tend to last when done properly, especially when using original parts for the calliper assembly. Did your mechanic mention how common these electronic parking brake failures are on the A7? Mine explained its a known issue once these vehicles reach higher mileage.

After getting the work done at a new shop last week, I can finally share the full story. The repair ended up costing 780 Euro total, higher than yours due to the extra wiring work and control module issues. But the system glitch is completely fixed now and the electronic parking brake works perfectly again. The new mechanic was much better than my previous one. They did a thorough vehicle safety check and found the damaged wiring harness that was causing intermittent brake fault codes. The parking brake now engages smoothly without any warning lights on the dash. They confirmed these electronic brake failures are pretty common on higher mileage A7s, usually starting around 150000-200000km. At least the repair should last a long time since they used genuine parts for the entire brake calliper assembly. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it helped me understand what I was dealing with before going to the shop. Glad to have this sorted and know others have successfully resolved similar brake system issues.
